Medicine Hat College invites applications for a full-time, contract Program Developer to develop a new Addictions Counselling Diploma program for the School of Health and Community Services.

MHC received funding through the Government of Alberta’s Mental Health Professions Enrolment Expansion to offer an Addictions Counselling program. MHC obtained a curriculum map, course syllabi, exams, rubrics, and lesson plans through a collaboration with another Alberta postsecondary institution, so the Program Developer will begin building the program with a program curriculum. The Program Developer will work in collaboration with the Dean, the School, and other internal stakeholders to secure internal/external program approvals and implement the program structure and schedule. The Program Developer will also develop external relationships with the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation and regional practicum partners. This project is to be completed by June 30, 2025.

The Program Developer will be responsible for producing the main deliverables listed below:

• Draft applications for internal and external program approvals, including applications to the College’s General Academic Council, Advanced Education, and a self-study.
• Develop a program plan for a new Addictions Counselling diploma, with input from the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation.
• Implement an Addictions Counselling diploma that aligns with the Alberta Recovery Model and integrates Indigenous ways of healing and the Brain Story Certificate.
