Description:

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking a passionate, purpose driven, systems thinker, with a deep understanding of racial inequity, housing justice, and grants management to fill the role of Programs Manager within the organization’s Housing and Community Strategy (HCS) team. The HCS team works with Habitat for Humanity local offices across the United States primarily through thought partnership, capacity building and strategic investments. The team’s efforts are grounded in social justice and equity and focused on identifying, investing in, and scaling innovative approaches to affordable housing, economic mobility, and neighborhood transformation.
At Habitat, we know that a system of intentional and systemic racial discrimination has prevented many Black households from owning homes, and the Black homeownership rate in the U.S. is now the lowest of any racial or ethnic group. With the development of the Advancing Black Homeownership initiative, Habitat seeks to ensure Black households have equitable access to successful homeownership. As the racial homeownership gap has grown, we have responded with a stronger voice through advocacy, programmatic strategy and partnerships.
As a key member of the HCS team, this position will support equity focused program implementation, including the design and implementation of Advancing Black Homeownership strategies. While providing strategic direction, the manager will engage and assist Habitat affiliates to adopt, adapt and implement strategies to increase access to homeownership for Black homebuyers. This position will ensure overall leadership of the management of grants, from inception to closeout and supervise all project grants functions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalency in experience
  • 5-7 years of related experience

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work independently and as a team to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks and be resourceful.
  • Outstanding people skills.
  • Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of MS software, internet & basic office equipment.
  • Experience in managing complex programs.
  • A high level of diplomacy and networking skills; cross-cultural sensitivity.
  • Critical analytical skills, especially in situations where the issues are not fully defined.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to social justice, racial equity and systems level transformation

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS (IN ADDITION TO MINIMUM):

  • Ability to navigate complex affiliate and headquarters world.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Experience working at a national level and with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Grants management experience
  • Experience in knowledge management, peer to peer sharing and communities of practice
  • Knowledge and experience in placed-based community strategies, affordable housing and public health, human-centered design, and/or developmental evaluation.
  • Strong program and project management skills including the ability to monitor and produce on time deliverables for multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative on projects.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support HFHI community-facing programs teams and affiliates to design Advancing Black Homeownership and other equity focused strategies that support HCS Strategic Plan. Develop and execute relevant training for Habitat affiliates. (25%)
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert on Advancing Black Homeownership and other equity focused work to build tools and partnership that support outcomes and impact of work on affiliate network - which may include frequent travel within the US. (25%)
  • Connect Advancing Black Homeownership goals, strategy, and program delivery improvements to market-based strategies and funding opportunities (10%)
  • Develop key internal partnerships with internal programs departments and affiliates working to expand investment, influence and engagement in equity programs. (10%)
  • Support communications efforts internally and externally (10%)
  • Facilitate and support internal and external advisory groups who will codesign strategies (10%)
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor (10%)
