Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

The primary function of the Program Manager – Indigenous Health, International Affairs and Best Practice Guidelines Centre (IABPG) is to co-lead the creation, implementation and evaluation of knowledge transfer strategies specific to RNAO’s Indigenous health program. The Indigenous health program is expanding in partnership with Indigenous organizations and communities. This role focuses on the application of implementation science and social movement action principles alongside Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing when working with individuals, communities, organizations and health systems.

SKILL, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Registered Nurse with current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Master’s degree in nursing is preferred, along with in-depth knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
  • Experience working with Indigenous-led organizations and communities, including culturally grounded, Indigenous-led programming and services.
  • Knowledge of cultural protocols to appropriately engage and foster respectful, reciprocal, ongoing relationships with local (including urban) First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples
  • Knowledge and skill in planning and co-facilitating learning events and programs in collaboration with Indigenous partners and organizations that may involve small and large groups, including conducting discussion groups (e.g., storytelling circles, and learning circles). , in-person and virtual, curriculum development, delivery and evaluation.
  • Experience implementing RNAO’s best practice guidelines in service or academic programs.
  • Knowledge and interest in social movement action, concepts and principles.
  • Lived experience with Indigenous world views, cultures and values with strong ties to First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit communities is an asset. Experience working with Indigenous faculty and senior administrators is an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous research practices and principles, culturally- sensitive partnership engagement methods, and ethics.
  • Understanding of systematic review methodology, literature reviews and conducting discussion groups (e.g., storytelling circles, learning circles).
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work individually or in collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills: synthesize and present information, prepare manuscripts, reports, narratives, proposals, and correspondence, and answer email/telephone inquiries.
  • Knowledge in a second language is an asset.
  • Political acumen to represent RNAO at provincial committees and other forums.
  • Strong program management skills and ability to prioritize, organize workload, work independently, be accurate and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to operate a computer and use a variety of software programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Co-lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of knowledge transfer strategies, programs and professional development offerings in collaboration with Indigenous partners and organizations that address Indigenous health and wellness.
  • Engage with and provide coaching to Indigenous-focused Best Practice Spotlight Organizations® (BPSOs® - pre-designates and designates) within the assigned Cohort(s) and areas of community wellness.
  • Collaborate with and mobilize BPSOs® to implement best practice guidelines alongside Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing through the use of knowledge transfer activities, social movement action principles, and Indigenous approaches to wellness to support meaningful outcomes/impacts identified by Indigenous-focused organizations and communities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external Indigenous partners and organizations to develop and facilitate professional development offerings. This includes in-person and/or virtual small and large-group professional development programming.
  • Contribute to activities related to the implementation, dissemination, evaluation and dissemination phases of RNAO’s work and funded or related projects, as required.
  • Contribute to the development of funding proposals in collaboration with the Senior Manager, Associate Director(s) and Director.
  • Work with the Senior Manager, Associate Director(s), Director, Indigenous partners and organizations and RNAO staff to identify and develop public-friendly resources related to the work of RNAO.
  • Develop and submit abstracts for presentation and publication in various scientific and community forums.
  • Act as a mentor/preceptor for nursing students to support student learning.
  • Liaise with RNAO staff to create a work environment that fosters cultural humility and the professional growth of employees.
  • Collaborate with the policy department to identify and inform policies and priorities related to Indigenous wellness.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Manager and Project Coordinator to plan and execute portfolio deliverables.
  • Other duties as required by the job.
