Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

The Medical Device Reprocessing Department is a support department responsible for reprocessing of medical devices for the health care facility consisting of two campuses. The service includes the selection and use of new technologies, as well as chemical disinfection, steam sterilization, and computerized processing equipment, in response to environmental occupational and infection control standards. The expectation of the Manager is to base practice on evidence based; industry standards for the reprocessing of medical devices used on patients as well as knowledge of the CSA sterilization standards.
The work performed includes reprocessing of medical devices used during all surgeries, as well as devices used for diagnosis and treatment. The work is becoming increasingly more complex as new types of surgeries are performed and along with them, more devices that are complex are required to perform the procedures. The Manager will ensure a team-based approach in a learning environment and is responsible for leading by example and working within the organization’s mission, vision and values.

SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Acquired knowledge of occupational health and safety precautions/regulations applicable to that area is required.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and affect change.
  • French Language proficiency an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary Bachelor’s degree – required.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Sterile Processing Instrument Technician Program – required.
  • 3 years’ managerial experience preferred, including financial monitoring and control, supply management, workload delegation, quality control and staffing methodology.
  • Previous OR/MDRD experience - preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Organizes, controls, and monitors designated medical device reprocessing functions for the health care facility, including the efficient utilization and management of human, material and monetary resources employed in these operations.
  • Provides leadership to the medical device reprocessing department through the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of systems to achieve corporate and regional objectives, and provides feedback to the regional director, medical device reprocessing.
  • Ensures that the daily work performed within the medical device processing department is of high standard and is conducted in a manner consistent with CSA sterilization standards, infection control guidelines and provincial workplace health and safety regulations.
  • Assumes a leadership role with other facilities to mitigate the risk related to medical device reprocessing.
  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment for all staff, patients and physicians.
  • Responsible for monitoring, managing and practicing in accordance with corporate policies, goals, objectives and obtaining corporate targets with respect to all corporate quality indicators.
  • Other duties as assigned.
