Description:
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s level degree in Education, Social Work or related field OR special training in this position for a group home.
Must be culturally sensitive to different ethnic groups.
SKILLS / ABILITIES:
Ability to relate compassionately, non-judgmentally and professionally to refugee minors from other countries.
Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
Ability to follow directions, but also make sound independent decisions.
Good public relations skills.
Timeliness with paperwork.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to read, write and speak English.
Average verbal and written communication skills.
Must have access to and be able to drive a vehicle day or night.
Bending, lifting, and manual dexterity are required to perform functions associated with the job.
Must be physically, alert, stable and able to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to work with and socialize with youth and staff members from diverse backgrounds and other countries.
Must demonstrate maturity and flexibility in stressful and emotionally demanding situations.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Must continue to receive a satisfactory rating on the annual performance evaluatio
Responsibilities:
Plan weekly meetings with the house residents to discuss general procedures for helping develop and maintain good relationships between the residents to promote individual growth and development and to enhance adjustment to a new cultural environment.
Assist and/or plan daily study time for residents.
Develop with the caseworker an educational program that helps teach the individual refugee youth the necessities of living in the United States as independent individuals so they can eventually become contributing members of society. Emphasis is also placed on career opportunities.
Provide individual information to residents on any adjustment needs that occur. Consult with the caseworker regarding the needs.
Help develop with the caseworker the six month case plan for each client.
Attend weekly meetings with the group home director to report on program development.
Supervise the youth living in the home and enforce house rules.
Supervise the general maintenance and upkeep of the house and grounds.
Assist youth with the preparation of nutritious meals daily.
Plan a daily schedule for the house residents so that the general maintenance of the house responsibilities will be evenly divided.
Provide transportation as needed with provided vehicle. Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
Foster positive behavior through modeling and teaching of constructive ways to respond to people and situations.
Support and encourage progress at school.
Encourage and provide wholesome recreational activities.
Keep all records up to date (medicines, incidents, progress, safety, fire drills, storm drills, etc.)
Keep financial records on all household expenditures. Receipts are turned in to the Group Home Director for approval and reimbursement (if applicable).
Other duties as assigned by the program director.
