Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

  • Qualified lawyer with at least 1+ years PQE, ideally with experience in television or other media production and/or content clearance (in house or private practice)
  • Knowledge of law of defamation, contempt, privacy and copyright
  • Knowledge of regulatory Codes and their practical application
  • Ability to provide constructive and creative solutions to legal and compliance problems
  • Ability to forge effective working relationships with producers, ITV business contacts and the Compliance team
  • Ability to provide authoritative and succinct advice on very short notice
  • Ability to manage a demanding and varied workload involving every part of the output of ITV’s family of channels, including network documentaries, entertainment and reality series, and regional news reporting.
  • Ability to exercise sound analytical judgment and risk assessment skills
  • Be a team player working within a co-operative and collegiate environment
  • Ability to deal effectively with competing priorities and experience in working effectively under pressure
  • Effective communicator both verbal and writte

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

We are looking for a Programme Lawyer to join our dynamic Legal and Content Compliance team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of law and entertainment, where no two days are the same.
As a Programme Lawyer, you will provide programme content legal and compliance advice to content creators for ITV (both in house and external).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide advice on a range of legal issues including defamation, contempt, privacy and copyright
  • Provide advice on compliance with broadcasting regulations including the Ofcom Broadcasting Code
  • Ensure that producers (inc 3rd parties) understand their compliance obligations
  • Provide advice and support to non-legal Compliance team on request
  • Draft responses to programme regulatory complaints
  • Conduct proactive compliance risk and issue management
  • Capture compliance data on approved broadcast and compliance systems
  • Contribute to compliance process continuous improvement
