Description:
The Oral and Dental Directorate, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the School of Clinical Dentistry, University of Sheffield are working in partnership and with other key stakeholders, including the South Yorkshire Dental Workforce Planning Group, to create a local transformational workforce plan.
The Oral and Dental Surgery community have an ambition to create a workforce plan that will deliver excellent and sustainable patient care, professional teaching and training for the future. The plan must be transformational and align to the direction in the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan and policy paper Faster, simpler and fairer: our plan to recover and reform NHS dentistry.
The post holder will project manage the creation of a workforce plan and an outline business case for appropriate supporting facilities, including the option of a new centre for dental development in the community with a best value operating model.
Lead on the delivery of the Dental Workforce Transformation Programme including risk and issue management, reporting, milestone achievement, information management and reporting, comms and engagement, and benefits management.
Establish a robust governance and management framework for the Programme that will deliver the outputs and outcomes necessary to achieve the aims of the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan and the policy paper “Faster, simpler and fairer: our plan to recover and reform NHS Dentistry”.
Manage he whole lifecycle of work packages and projects against the Programme plan to ensure deliverables within the scope of a project are defined and delivered, in order that the outcomes can be achieved, benefits realised, and lessons continually captured and managed.
Lead on developing strategic intelligence to facilitate the successful delivery of the Programme and to identify and formulate areas for system-wide improvements.
Provide the leadership to define a project or workstreams scope of work, including initiating, overseeing and developing the mobilisation and approvals of projects, alongside owning aspects of project and programme delivery.

Charles Clifford Dental Hospital is situated to the west of the City Centre and is integrated within the University of Sheffield’s School of Dentistry teaching complex. Services are provided at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital and within the University of Sheffield campus.
The CCDS Directorate is the major provider of specialist dental and oral services to the population of South Yorkshire, approximately 538,000 rising to 672,000 when considering patients from adjacent areas with some services provided at a regional and national level. The Directorate was awarded academic status in 2012 and with the School of Clinical Dentistry provides a unique role in the ongoing training of all members of the dental care professions and development and investment into oral and dental research.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 12 months (until the 31st of December 2025) due to the post being externally funded. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust’s legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.
