JOB ADVERTISEMENT

New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) is accepting applicants for the position of Programs and Events Assistant (Part-Time, Temporary) in the Department of Learning and Engagement. The Programs and Events Assistant supports the Learning and Engagement Division with managing museum programs and special events. The position requires high responsibility, organization, and a firm commitment to providing excellent service to program and event participants. The ideal candidate has demonstrable experience supporting activities that engage adult visitors in multidisciplinary arts-based programming for adult audiences in museums or other cultural institutions, contributing to the cultural enrichment of our community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with customer service and entry-level experience in the visual arts and museum work.
High School diploma or GED; some college, or experience working in museums preferred
Solid interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact with visitors of all ages, abilities, and economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds
Ability to assert oneself when needed to enforce policies and protect artwork; maintain calm and professional demeanor for all visitor interactions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Ability to work effectively on a wide variety of projects concurrently, with concern for the tasks assigned and the goals of the program
Understanding of museum policies and procedures
Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively
Ability to effectively manage projects with a high degree of organization and productivity
Complete other duties and projects as assigned.

Flexible schedule to accommodate evening & weekend programs
Salary is $15 per hour*

Responsibilities:

Logistical and administrative support for the preparation and implementation of engagement programs, including, but not limited to, Creative Assembly (Artists in Residence), Art Thrives (55+), Book Club, Gallery Talks, Music in the Garden, NOMA at Night, and Cultural Festivals.
Assists with gathering information for program memorandums
Provides onsite assistance at programs
Assists with program scheduling, check-in, and visitor directives
Providing information to potential event and program planners as directed
Helps with event and program event equipment management and set-up
Assists with other duties as requested
