Description:

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.
Please see below for detailed job description of the role.
We are seeking an experienced nurse to work in the busy Surgical Pre Operative Assessment unit at Southampton General Hospital. You will start off as a band 5 and commence a comprehensive training and development pathway, on completion of competency sign offs you will be promoted to band 6 Nurse Practitioner which can take between 3-6 months. We also run a clinic in Lymington and occasional working across both sites is expected.
Our team is made up of Nurse Practitioners (working across Southampton and Lymington), Health Care Assistants and administrative staff. The clinic opening hours and therefore working days/hours are Monday to Friday between the hours of 07:45-17:45. We are a busy service and currently pre-assess around 10,000 patients per year for multiple surgical specialities.
As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to.
All non-clinical roles may involve a mixture of on site and remote working, Specific details and flexible working options can be discussed as part of the interview process. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.
Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.
Specific to this role we are open to discussing flexibility in the hours that you work. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you need, and we will explore what’s possible for the role and service.

What you’ll do -

  • Whilst you undertake your training as a band 5, you will be given a modified practitioner training including History Taking and Physical Examination (please be aware this job does not provide a full ACP masters pathway)
  • During that training process you will receive specialist competencies in practice from Anaesthetic teaching Leads.
  • Once you are a fully competent band 6 Nurse Practitioner you will perform face to face and telephone assessments of patients who are due to have elective surgery, ensuring they are safe to proceed and optimised prior to surgery.

What we’re looking for -

  • Significant post registration experience within a surgical setting.
  • Experience of writing at level 6 modules and can demonstrate commitment to further learning.
  • Experience working within a multi professional team and liaising with multiple departments
  • Evidence of IT skills and ability to develop these skills further
