Description:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Project Accountant to join our accounting team, specializing in real estate development, project accounting, and administration. In this role, you will be reporting to Vice President FP&A, and will be responsible for managing key accounting tasks such as budgets, reconciliations, monthly draws, and financial reporting. You will collaborate closely with senior finance professionals to ensure accurate financial records and compliance with industry regulations. QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • CPA or advanced stages of CPA certification desirable.
  • 1-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate project accounting or related field.
  • Proficiency in construction/property management software, such as ProCore or Jonas Premier, is preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative team mindset.

Responsibilities:

As a Project Accountant you will be an integral member of our accounting team, supporting accounting activities related to real estate development and project accounting. Your role will be a combination of traditional accounting functions and project administration, requiring a strong understanding of accounting in development projects.

In addition to the duties typically expected of an accounting professional, the successful incumbent will also be responsible for the following duties on assigned portfolios:

  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and closing journal entries.
  • Collaborate with project managers for month-end accruals.
  • Assist in setting up project budgets, change orders, and estimates in the accounting system.
  • Prepare and assist in monthly capital call & loan draw documentation.
  • Prepare in depth monthly and quarterly trial balance review and provide variance analysis.
  • Prepare monthly draft financial statements.
  • Prepare monthly HST returns.
  • Assist in preparing monthly financial reporting package.
  • Coordinate with Development Analysts on quarterly model update for on-going projects.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliation of forecasted costs from financial system to financial model.
  • Assisting Project Managers through the financial lifecycle of a project, including setup, monitoring, updating, and closure.
  • Assist with year-end financial statement audits, including preparation of working papers and compilation of supporting documents and implementing best practices.
  • Assist in compliance reporting to lenders, government agencies, and partners.
  • Independently organize and prioritize workload to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Maintain adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Standards (IFRS, ASPE).
  • Maintain and update process documentation regularly.
  • Perform other administrative and accounting tasks as assigned.
