Description:

The UCLA Social Welfare Department is recruiting for a Project Coordinator to support a research project on LGBTQ women’s experiences with the child welfare system. The project is funded by the California Department of Public Health. The Social Welfare Project Coordinator will manage and implement tasks consistent with the research project contract and aims. The role includes reviewing existing research on family involvement with the child welfare system, identifying community organizations and nonprofits working with families impacted by child welfare agencies, and reviewing related policies in the United States. Working closely with the Project’s Principal Investigator, the Project Coordinator will be the day-to-day lead on the project administration and will work closely with the Luskin School fund manager and the contract’s office at the funding agency. The ideal candidate has a proven track record in coordinating or conducting research projects and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders, alongside an interest in developing expertise on policy issues related to the study aims. We seek applicants who are confident translating research to a general audience, and who would be comfortable developing and carrying out research agendas with project partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in an academic, research or think-tank environment (Preferred)
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. (Required)
  • Proven ability to produce clear, concise, and compelling analysis (Required)
  • Ability to research and document empirical findings. (Required)
  • Knowledge of LGBTQ community issues and policy, and/or the child welfare system. (Required)
  • Ability to bridge relationships between the university and county department systems and community organizations. (Required)
  • Ability to translate academic research into practitioner-based language. (Required)
  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. (Preferred)
  • Ability to use statistical software to conduct parametric and nonparametric statistics. (Preferred)
  • Skill in operating various software and web-based project management applications (e.g., MS Teams, Trello, Google Workspace Suite, Box, Asana) (Required)
  • Ability to work independently on research projects to negotiate and meet simultaneous deadlines. (Required)
  • Skill in determining priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities and deadlines. (Required)

EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS & PERSONAL AFFILIATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree In related area and/or equivalent experience/training (Required)
  • Master’s Degree In field related to social work, policy, health or the social sciences. (Preferred) Or
  • PhD In field related to social work, policy, health or the social sciences. (Preferred)
