We are looking for an experienced Project Engineer with a Civil Engineering or HV Cable background to join our team on an exciting 132kV underground cable project, in one of Scotland’s most breathtaking and challenging landscapes, the Isle of Skye. This role offers a rare opportunity to lead engineering and construction aspects within a technically demanding and visually stunning environment.

Based on the Isle of Skye on our Skye 132kV Underground Cable project you will work as part of a larger team constructing the new 137km Overhead Line from Fort Augustus to Edinbane. The underground cable route is a 15km technically challenging section with significant engineering challenges with regards to terrain, topography, ground conditions and the environment. What you’ll be doing
As a Project Engineer, you will have the following accountabilities:
- Oversee site engineering activities, including access road construction, excavation, trenching, HDD’s, backfill, and reinstatement to support cable installations.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including subcontractors to ensure effective integration of civil works within the broader project framework
- Conduct site assessments, focusing on technical and environmental factors that may impact construction
- Develop and enforce safe work practices, particularly in challenging weather and terrain conditions
- Ensure that civil works meet design standards, compliance, and quality benchmarks
- Act as the engineering point of contact for stakeholders, providing updates on progress, risks, and key milestones
Who we’re looking for
You will have the following:
- HNC/HND/Degree in a civil engineering discipline would be preferable and/or relevant site experience within the Utilities / Construction Industry
- Comfortable with ambiguity, able to tease out sensitive issues and lead cross-functional teams towards solutions.
- Ability to work across conflicting interest groups to develop solutions to complex operational and commercial problems
- People Management experience and relationship management skills
- Commercial awareness with knowledge of both budgetary and Financial control.
- Knowledge of Project Management methodology.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Willing to work away from home.
