Job Description
The Project Engineer position is a hands-on job requiring excellent technical, organizational, and communication skills. This position offers the opportunity for substantial career development, reports to the Operations Manager, and will work closely with Sales, Project Management, and Purchasing.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering or related field
- 5-10 years of hands-on experience in the material handling industry
- Experience in Belt Calculation (Power and Belt selection) as well as Drive/Take-up Layouts
- Experience in CAD design programs such as AutoCAD, Inventor and Advance Steel
- A strong ability to review, analyze, interpret, and develop technical drawings, schematics, 3D models
- Knowledge of Bulk Material Handling equipment selections, conveyor design, applicable guidelines, codes, and regulations
- Basic understanding of related mechanical, structural and electrical systems
- Knowledge of drafting, dimensioning, and document standard requirements
- Excellent time management skills, attention to detail and the ability to learn quickly
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to plan, manage, and control all phases of engineering
- Professional, positive, and energetic attitude
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as required
- Ability to listen for opportunities as well as navigating potential technical hurdles

Responsibilities:
- Perform research and analysis of customer design layouts, specifications, design criteria, and other data to execute the engineering content of Bulk Material Handling projects
- Perform belt calculations, layout drawings, and estimates to support the development of technical proposals of Bulk Material Handling projects
- Attend conference calls and on-site meetings with clients, as directed by the Operations Manager
- Prepare material requisitions defining the mechanical, structural, and electrical components to be purchased
- Technical liaison with customer, subcontractors, suppliers, and field, for all technical aspects of assigned projects including: Mechanical, Structural, system layout and functionality, code, specification compliance, equipment selections and constructability
- Review the layout and detailed mechanical and structural design of sub-systems and sub-assemblies for accuracy, completeness, economics, specifications and code compliance, safety, quality, and environmental standards. Ensure that the responsible Mechanical, Structural and Electrical personnel perform design reviews
- Oversee the projects’ engineering activities through the design, procurement, fabrication, and field installation
- Coordinate the technical aspects of projects with the Project Manager, Subcontractors, Suppliers, Customer, Fabricators and Field
- Develop and maintain the Engineering portion of the project schedule
- Create or modify drawings and documentation
- Coordinate between Fabrication, Engineering, and Field to ensure that design is interpreted / implemented correctly, and design drawings are updated to incorporate changes
- Receive and respond to shop fabrication and field installation RFI’s
- Procure and prepare training documents and operation / maintenance manuals
- Coordinate engineering data: as-builts, calculations, etc. for job closure
