Our customer is launching a new project, MOG2 – Princess Elisabeth Island:
To contribute to Europe and Belgium’s ambitions for the Energy Transition, our customer plans to extend its offshore high-voltage grid. This grid will connect the new Belgian windfarms located within the “Princess Elisabeth Windfarm zone.”
The Princess Elisabeth Zone will also host the energy island, marking a significant step in developing a European electricity grid at sea and advancing European climate ambitions. The energy island will be a key hub, where cables from the 2nd offshore wind zone (Princess Elisabeth Zone) and future interconnectors with other European countries, such as the United Kingdom and Denmark, will converge.
The concept currently being considered involves:
- Building one offshore artificial island – the Princess Elisabeth Island
- Connecting the windfarms at the 66kV level (scope of the windfarm owners)
- Connecting the platforms to shore using three-phase 220kV cables
GENERAL INFORMATION ON THE ASSIGNMENT:
The project is approaching the end of the tender phase for the Princess Elisabeth Island and will soon move into the Early Works phase, followed by the construction phase. During the Early Works phase, the successful bidder will begin the development of the detailed island design and construction engineering, including value-engineering proposals.
The Energy Island project is divided into three main sub-packages:
- Dredging, reclamation, and rockworks
- Island structures
- Third-party engineering
Our customer is seeking to strengthen its island team during the Early Works phase by providing follow-up and coordination of the engineering activities related to the island structures. These structures consist of a concrete construction (caissons, wave wall, top slab, etc.) surrounding the sand backfill, designed to protect the electrical installation from overtopping discharges. They will also house all interface structures (ducts, culverts, hang-off room, J-tubes, etc.) necessary for routing offshore cables, installing utilities, and enabling operation on the island.
HARD SKILLS AND SOFT SKILLS:
- At least 5 years of experience in structural design or structural engineering, preferably in the marine or offshore sector
- Education: Civil Engineer (Master’s degree)
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Able to work in a structured, independent, and precise manner
- Ability to write reports, understand project criticalities, and communicate effectively
- Experience working on multidisciplinary and complex projects
- Experience in concrete structure design and construction
- A smooth, assertive communicator and a resourceful, accountable team player
- Experience in the marine or offshore sector is a plus
- A quick learner and highly motivated to be part of an exciting offshore wind project
