CIVIL PROJECT ENGINEER

Harris is looking for a Water focused Project Engineer to join our dynamic Design & Engineering team in Concord, California.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Experience with project design and permitting, construction coordination, and providing regular communication
  • Designing water transmission, distribution systems, pumping stations, sanitary sewer conveyance systems, storm drain culvert and channels, & water treatment systems
  • Assisting in the preparation and review of engineering plans, specifications and legal documents, correspondences, reports and proposals.
  • Attend meetings and communicate with clients, government entities, and various regulatory agencies to fulfill any regulations and requirements relating to projects
  • Traveling to job sites for site visits, data collection, and meetings, as required
  • Serving as a liaison on behalf of various cities to private engineers, surveyors, developers, other public agency employees and engineers, and the general public.
  • Coordinating and overseeing the work of sub-consultants; explaining procedures, checking work for conformance with standards.
  • Coordinating with state, county, utility companies, and other agencies for project approval and construction.
  • Representing Harris and Associates and various cities at a variety of meetings.
  • Assisting in the administration of State and Federal grant funding applications.
  • Assisting with the issuance of encroachment permits for various cities.
  • Assisting with the preparation of proposals and other marketing documents

Qualifications & Skills

  • 3+ years of engineering experience
  • Applies deep understanding to design projects and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work, including PS&E activities, and preparing project specific analyses, calculations, and modeling
  • Experience performing hydraulic modeling (using programs such as EPA SWMM, Innovyze ICM, InfoWater, InfoSWMM, PC SWMM, HEC-RAS, etc.)
  • Engineer In Training (E.I.T.) Certificate Required, Professional Engineering (P.E.) License preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Positive attitude, self-motivated; sense of urgency to produce high quality work
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with the potential/desire to lead a practice and manage clients and a team
  • Computer skills preferred including AutoCAD, Civil 3-D, MicroStation, Word, Excel
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Valid CA Driver’s License
