About the role
Balfour Beatty has an exceptional opportunity for a Project Engineer - MEPHFC to join our outstanding Major Projects team to work at our iconic Old Oak Common development in London.
HS2s new c. 1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UKs best-connected rail station once completed. Our Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA joint venture will be responsible for the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station in Northwest London.
Upon completion, the new station will boast six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line. Old Oak Common will also provide highspeed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland, and the North, as well as direct services to three major airports. Incorporating passenger and retail facilities, the new station will provide an exceptional customer experience for both passengers and visitors to the station.
As a Project Engineer – MEPHFC, you will ensure that the MEPHFC design is coordinated and integrated with other design disciplines and work packages. Supporting the Design, Construction, and the Procurement teams in developing and implementing a MEPHFC procurement strategy, logistics routes and coordinated programme between all work packages and MEPHFC suppliers.
What you’ll be doing

- Managing requirements and outputs of the design contract in relation to all MEPHFC requirements and Design Responsibilities
- Support the BBVS Design Mangers both technically and from a design scope and delivery perspective.
- Raising and responding to GCs, EWs, RFIs and EIs / CEs that impact the MEPHFC design.
- Support the procurement teams in developing and implementing MEPHFC procurement strategies.
- Prepare scope of works for MEPHFC packages for suppliers to price.
- Function as the technical and scope reference point for the Construction Partner’s Design, Commercial, Delivery and other departments and the Consultant.
- Manage and implement change through the subcontractor’s technical assurance process.
- Manage the Consultant’s RIBA 5 Site Support team’s outputs from a technical standpoint.
- Manage change and variations to the subcontractor’s scope until point of formal instruction

- In-depth knowledge of all MEPFHC systems, relevant codes, industry standards, British Standards (BS), and Railway regulations.
- Proven experience working with MEPHFC designers, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to navigate and resolve complex issues.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience in presentations.
- Self-motivated and capable of managing and prioritizing your workload independently, even when faced with last-minute changes.
- Able to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
