Since it was established in 2019 as part of renewable energy frontrunner Release by Scatec has been developing and deploying a unique, flexible leasing solution of pre-assembled and modular solar and battery equipment for the mining and utilities market. Recently announced funding by Climate Fund Managers will enable our dynamic, young team in its ambition to power and electrify Africa. We are present in several countries in Africa and in the Americas, and are headquartered in Oslo, Norway.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Engineering Degree, preferably Electrical
  • 5+ years electrical engineering experience
  • 3+ years EPC/construction projects experience
  • 3+ years renewable energy sector experience (mainly solar PV, BESS experience is an advantage)
  • Advanced understanding of electrical engineering
  • Advanced understanding of the procurement and construction processes
  • Excellent MS Office Suite software knowledge and good working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat (or similar PDF app)
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint, project management tools (project planning) and methodologies
  • Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities:

MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION

Currently we are looking for a Project Engineer to be based in Cape Town, South Africa and be part of our global team. The Project Engineering function is primarily responsible for engineering services and support to projects. The primary mandate of the Project Engineer will produce and deliver the technical deliverables required by the projects he/she is assigned to and drive any technical processes within such projects. A Project Engineer is involved in a project throughout the project implementation phase, is formally assigned at the start of the project structuring phase and formally hands over his/her duties at the start of the power production phase to the Technical Asset Management function. Within his/her function the Project Engineer, reports to the Project Engineering Manager (as the functional line manager) and within a project to the Project Manager. The Project Engineer works closely with the rest of the implementation team and site electrical leads.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leading the implementation engineering workstreams: Proactively plan, manage and produce project engineering deliverables according to the Release Operating System process, the Release Master Document List of deliverables and as per the specific requirements of the project.
  • Actively participate in project handovers: Under the facilitation of the Project Engineering Manager, actively drive the efficient technical handovers from the technical development function as well as towards the technical asset management function.
  • Technical support to project teams: Provide day-to-day technical support, training and guidance to project teams, including the PMs, construction managers, site teams and the site quality function.
  • Support to procurement process: Work with procurement function on all project technical procurement work, with a focus on project BoQ reviews and updates, supplier interaction related to equipment produced for projects (specifications, FATs, etc)
  • Coordinate technical reviews: Champion the execution and review the engineering deliverables produced by the important workstreams such as: Technical detail design drawings, technical calculations, project BoQs, performance testing, handover documentation, etc.
  • Technical coordination with project third parties: Serve as the technical interface towards equipment suppliers, service providers, consultants and clients with regards to the projects being led.
  • Reporting to management: To regularly report to management on project technical deliverables and their status, challenges, bottlenecks, risks and opportunities to the Project Engineering Manager or Project Manager.

IMPORTANT ROLE INTERFACES:

  • Project engineering: Day-to-day interaction and alignment with site teams (as functional subordinates) and project implementation team members.
  • Product engineering: Interaction in the form of communicating project needs and continuous product improvement form project lessons learnt.
  • Interaction with the Technical Development function will entail coordinating smooth handovers between DG2-3 and ad-hoc requests for high-level review of client information.
  • Interaction with the Procurement and Logistics function will entail collaborating on the equipment and services sourcing for projects and logistics to projects.
  • Interaction with the Project Management function will entail the initial project setup and continuous technical support throughout the implementation phase of projects.
  • Interaction with the Project Site Teams entail the continuous technical support throughout the DG3-4 installation phase of projects. This involves training of installation personnel and follow-up of technical issues not able to be solved by the project site team themselves.
  • Interaction with the Document Control interface to align on the control of project engineering deliverables, including reviews, transmittals, etc.
  • Interaction with the Quality Assurance/Control function will entail collaboration with on-site teams on project specific quality work. To identify potential engineering-related quality risks and develop contingency plans in collaboration with QCs.
  • Interaction with the Technical Asset Management function will revolve around coordinating effective technical handovers at DG4.
