COMPANY OVERVIEW

Sports Labs excel in the design, procurement and testing of sports facilities and surfaces. We are an independent organisation accredited by sports governing bodies such as FIFA, World Rugby, World Athletics, the ITF (Tennis) and the FIH (Hockey).
This role is within our consultancy team providing expert guidance nationally and internationally on sports facility design and construction. We take pride in supporting our clients from local authorities, football associations, sports clubs or private clients in supporting them delivering safe and high performing facilities, on time and on budget.
This includes but not exclusive to carrying out site investigations, budgeting, feasibility studies, design, planning, project management, and quality control through to hand over and end of defects.

JOB OVERVIEW

We are looking for an engineer to join our progressive consultancy department at Sports Labs to meet the demands and growth with the business and department. If you have an interest in Sport and engineering this represents a unique and amazing opportunity to challenge yourself within the sports construction industry. We are open to submissions from different experience levels, and you would ideally be based at our headquarters in Livingston, alongside our small team of engineers, however there is scope for remote working based on location. Your role would be to primarily support the delivery of our project work whilst challenging yourself to develop you as an engineer and be trusted to deliver your own portfolio of work.

RELEVANT SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum qualification required; degree/diploma in Civil Engineering or an equivalent and or relevant experience.
  • Must be an excellent communicator and demonstrate confidence in dealing with other co-workers, to develop and maintain solid working relationships.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Project management skills and a pro-active approach to tasks and management.
  • Trustworthy.
  • Bring previous job experience, allowing educated and sound decisions to be made.
  • Ability to network with different people and groups.
  • Willing to learn and understand new technologies.
  • Ability to resolve issues creatively and in a timely manner.

    Remuneration based on experience

Working Location: Livingston HQ (with flexible/remote options potential)

  • Full driving license required
  • Comfortable to travel within the UK & Ireland and in some circumstances around the world.
  • Technical knowledge of sports construction is an advantage, but training will be provided.
  • Proficient with standard design software packages or willing to upskill with training on the packages we use.
  • Remuneration dependent on experience.

Responsibilities:

PRE-CONSTRUCTION DUTIES

  • Act as principal designer and will develop, with the client, a design in accordance with national guidelines.
  • Author performance specifications
  • Prepare master programme and risk registers.
  • Prepare contract documents and aid in procurement.
  • Assess tenders from both commercial and technical aspects.
  • Undertake CDM duties where necessary on behalf of the client.
  • Act along with others in the Sports Labs team as contract administrator
  • Liaison with the client, their affiliates, and users
  • Liaise with the local authority and relative consultees on designs and permissions.
  • Hold regular team meetings (to include sub-consultants) to plan the immediate work, co-ordinate disciplines and identify any areas of concern on deliverables.
  • Prepare civil design and co-ordinate with electrical designers and landscape consultants when applicable for the completion of designs.
  • Ensure that schemes are project managed with respect to time, cost and scope and all necessary tasks associated with this activity are completed.
  • Ensure requirements of all relevant Authorities are incorporated into designs as appropriate.
  • Undertake the assessment of designs and reports submitted by others.
  • Act as a liaison with test houses for the certificate of NGBs
  • Hold regular progress meetings (to include sub-consultants) in order to plan the immediate work, co-ordinate disciplines and identify any areas of concern on deliverables.

CONSTRUCTION DUTIES

  • Undertake CDM duties
  • Coordinate and direct construction workers and subcontractors when required.
  • Undertake the assessment of designs and reports submitted by others.
  • Assess Health and Safety on site
  • Assess quality of construction.
  • Assess results from key stage inspecting testing.
  • Manage technical queries and request for information.
  • Oversee all onsite and offsite constructions to monitor compliance with building, safety and governing body regulations.
