Description:
Position Overview:
International is seeking passionate, innovative, and talented people to drive our globally developed solutions in our Autonomous Transportation Solutions (ATS) group. Where autonomy is seeking to drive sustainability through increases in efficiency, reduce harm with increased safety, and seeking to overall increase the productivity of the commercial transportation segment. International’s ATS Systems Engineering team is responsible for defining system requirements based on customer, legal, technical standards, or internal specifications for mechanical, electrical, and software elements of defined systems.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and/or support analysis and specification of system safety concepts and requirements
- Create, contribute to, and/or facilitate as necessary development and verification of safety plan, hazard and risk analyses, and functional and technical safety concepts and requirements.
- Develop and maintain the safety plans for the assigned projects.
- Review supplier safety process deliverables and guide supplier on safety process and safety requirements as required.
- Work with responsible staff members to ensure that Safety-related Work Products will satisfy ASIL-requirements for verification reviews and conformance assessments.
- Participate in or lead verification reviews of safety-related work products in conformance with ASIL requirements.
- Escalate unresolved safety related issues and confirm that the issue resolution process has been followed.
- Communicate with independent external assessors on given projects.
- Support definition of the Development Interface Agreement with suppliers or collaboration partners.
- Interface with corporate and industry experts to stay current in safety processes, methods, and tools.
- Participate in supplier assessment regarding functional safety process capability and performance.
- Actively participate in functional safety related process development and decision bodies if needed.
- Support safety-related verification and validation and fault injection testing (FIT) activities to ensure products are meeting defined safety requirements.
- Work in a team and contribute to the continuous improvement activities through participation in Lean projects, Navistar’s design standards, process improvements etc.
- Support solving problems and implementing solutions with development teams.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
- At least 8 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
- At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities
OR
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
- At least 6 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
- At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities
OR
- PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
- At least 3 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
- At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities
Additional Requirements:

Desired Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or related Engineering
- Experience with requirement documentation and systems engineering principles and techniques
- Experience with SysML or UML
- Experience with GSN or related methodology for safety argument development and defense
- Experience with engineering and quality design and development methodologies: (FMEA, FTA, STPA, DVP&R, 8D, FRACAS, RCA)
- Direct or coordinated software development experience
- Engineering tools such as MatLab (or other model-based development tools),, MS Visio, CAD, Requirements Management, INCA calibration tool, Software Configuration management tools
- Software and electrical testing tools (Canalyzer, HILs, VILs, etc.)
- Experience with Vehicle, Powertrain, or Engine Controls System design
- Experience in functional areas, such as Cybersecurity, Electric Vehicle Electronics, Autonomous Electronics (Radar, Lidar, Camera, Autonomous processor, etc..), Functional Safety (ISO26262), Vehicle Communications and Network and Unified Diagnostic Services (ISO14229)
- Experience developing in safety critical regulated industries (aerospace, medical, automotive)
- Demonstrable working knowledge of functional safety development processes needed to meet the requirements of the ISO 26262 standard or adjacent market standards such as IEC 61508 or its derivatives.
- Knowledgeable in implementation or application of Quality Management Systems (e.g. ISO 9001, or IATF 16949 expectations)
- Strong talent for carrying out both inductive and deductive safety analyses. Familiarity with common analysis techniques such as Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) is required and STPA is desired.

- Domain development experience in system design (e.g. steering, brake, ADAS controls, perception sensors, body, HMI, etc.)
