ABOUT US:

Since 2009, Gowest has expanded its land holdings in the North Timmins Gold Project (“NTGP”) area to cover a total of 109 square km in the Timmins gold camp, with much of the additional lands being located along the same geological structures – along the largely undeveloped Pipestone Fault, believed to be a splay off the prolific Porcupine-Destor Fault, which has produced the majority of the 145 million ounces of gold produced historically along the Abitibi-Greenstone belt – that host Gowest’s Bradshaw Gold Deposit (formerly Frankfield East) as well as a number of other gold showings.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Chief Geologist (or their delegate), the Project Exploration Geologist will drive multi-faceted surface and underground exploration programs to generate new resources and advance existing resources to production as well as develop innovative exploration targets. The position requires direct involvement with exciting existing project in Timmins.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in Geology; registered or with the ability to register with the Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (or equivalent).
  • More than 5 years of Exploration/Mining experience in narrow vein gold.
  • Knowledge of narrow vein gold systems in Archean terranes.
  • Exposure to drilling, core logging, and underground settings.
  • Basic First Aid would be an asset.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, listening and time management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess a valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License.
  • Must be willing to relocate to Timmins.
  • CSA approved Steel Toed Safety Boots are required.

Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to all Company policies, procedures and standards and legislated requirements with a focus on health and safety.
  • Ensures that assigned exploration efforts are prioritized as to present short-term exploration opportunities for Gowest Gold. Ensure that exploration projects are well implemented and will lead to desired results allowing decisions to be made.
  • Spot drill hole locations and track expected deviations for drillhole traces to effectively test the mineralization and exploration targets as directed. Proactively tracks active drillhole traces and flags to unexpected deviations.
  • Applies geological work (core logging, mapping, sample collection, QAQC, etc.) to ensure CIM guidelines for best practice for exploration are followed.
  • Assists in proposing budgets and exploration programs on assigned Gowest Gold projects. Assists in preparation and presentation of yearly Exploration Budgets through completing necessary supporting geological images.
  • Track exploration results and recommends changes to the plan as required. Create and interpret geological sections. Update geological model in Leapfrog or other provided software.
  • Completes field visits to assigned projects to ensure drill and exploration programs are conducted to high standards.
  • supervises Contractor work on assigned projects, ensuring adherence to all Safety policies and procedures.
  • Mentoring, training, and coaching to aid in the continuing development of geologists and core technicians that may be assigned.
  • Working with the Gowest Gold Exploration Team when/if required.
  • Maintaining and improving QA/ QC procedures; and apply QAQC analysis and report.
  • Daily and monthly reporting of drilling statistics and results.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
