WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU BRING?
- Your educational background will consist of the completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e. Electrical Engineering) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario is mandatory.
- Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) is considered an asset.
- Your application will reveal your extensive progressive experience in the areas of engineering/construction management for large electrical, multi-discipline and/or heavy construction projects.
- You will have thorough knowledge of current electrical engineering principles and practices combined with a comprehensive knowledge of project management principles and practices including familiarity with conceptual planning, and current scheduling and expenditure analyses systems.
- In addition, you will have comprehensive knowledge of electrical systems and components, construction contract law, construction methods and processes, contract administration, as well as pertinent Acts and Regulations (i.e. Construction Lien Act, OH&S Act, applicable codes and standards that govern electrical design for buildings such as the National Building Code of Canada, the Ontario Building Code, the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, the Electrical Safety Authority regulations, etc.), and local trade and TTC union contract rules.
- You will also have sound knowledge of business administration, fiscal and human resources policies, and legislation/regulations regarding safety, human rights, employment, etc.
- You will have the ability to maintain effective work relationships with multi-discipline teams through recognizing and evaluating issues and problems, and formulating solutions.
- Your sound judgement, highly developed management, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills will be invaluable in this position.
- Additionally, you will have excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Your strong negotiation and mediation skills for the successful resolution of contract claims are essential.
- Your excellent working knowledge of personal computers and computerized applications related to the work will be required.
- Possession of a valid non-probationary class “G” Driver’s License is also required.
- As a Project Manager, Electrical, you will be required to successfully complete relevant Rule Book and Work Protection Code Certifications, including recertification as appropriate.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Senior Manager - Capital Project Delivery, you will be responsible for implementing and managing projects in a multi-year Capital Program from inception, planning, design, procurement and construction through commissioning to completion in accordance with the TTC’s budget, schedule, and quality assurance requirements. You will coordinate project teams comprised of multi-discipline TTC resources, consultants and other third-party agencies including City departments, in the project’s planning, design, procurement and construction phases through to its commissioning and close-out phases.
You will prepare, coordinate, and present project identification, scope, design, justification and budget to relevant stakeholders for approval. You will also prepare detailed plans/schedules of implementation activities. Additionally, you will direct the activities of staff and coordinate with in-house construction staff from other sections and departments, and external contractors.
As the Project Manager, Electrical, you will deliver projects in accordance with approved budgets, schedules, objectives, and quality assurance requirements. You will monitor project progress against the project plan, requirements, quality measures and milestones, and take action to resolve deficiencies and deviations. You will manage on-site construction, testing and commissioning work to ensure that project requirements are met.
In this role, you will be responsible for the preparation of daily or regular reports. You will ensure timely reporting of schedule, financial, safety, human resources and other key project management issues to management. You will initiate project reviews with stakeholders on a regular basis and implement necessary scope, budget and schedule changes. You will review all project schedules to identify conflicts for resources between projects and mitigate and adjust schedules/milestones based on project priorities. You will also ensure that the project adheres to schedules, contractual agreements, budgets, policies, and regulations. You will be responsible for reviewing and commenting on various legal agreements that the TTC enters into with third parties. Additionally, you will prepare and present project updates to senior management, the Commission, City and other officials.
