EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Completion of a Bachelor in Engineering, Architecture Construction Project Management or related field from an accredited institution
- A Diploma in Architectural Technology, Engineering Technology or Construction Project Management
- Current membership and in good standing in the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGA) or The Association of Science & Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) or equivalent
- A minimum of 10 years of progressively more responsible related experience, including supervision in an administrative support capacity, is preferred.
- Extensive experience with two or more of the following fields: architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and building envelope with project construction and management knowledge.
- Experience with managing projects within occupied facilities and with implementing phased redevelopment strategies.
- Able to work within a team environment utilizing leadership, strong negotiation, conflict management, and delegation skills;
- Proficiency with Integrated Workplace Management Systems and various Building Design and Building Information Modelling software would be an asset.
- Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, computerized accounting, database, electronic mail/calendar, publishing, and presentation computer applications as well as other information management tools, with an emphasis on accuracy

Responsibilities:
WHAT DOES THIS ROLE LOOK LIKE?
The CBE understands the future of work is flexible. In this role, you are eligible to participate in a flexible work program that allows you to work remotely for up to three days a week. A minimum of two days must be in the office. At certain times, you maybe be required to work in the office more then 2 days per week based on operational requirements.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this job is to provide project management services for all aspects of institutional building construction and upgrades, encompassing - design, documentation, and project administration for new construction, major renovation, and small or special projects at the Calgary Board of Education (CBE).
ACCOUNTABILITY
This job is accountable for working as a part of the project delivery team under the direction of the Manager, Project Services, and providing effective and collaborative leadership in all aspects of managing construction and renovation projects, including budget, process, and technology. The Project Manager is also accountable for meeting the project objectives in terms of cost, quality, quantity, and time of completion. This job ensures the proper and equitable utilization and optimization of financial and human resources, effective inquiry, organization and communication, and effective problem-solving.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- The provision of project management functions for various building components upgrade projects in CBE facilities encompassing: Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and Building Envelope.
- Conduct investigations, condition assessments, and field reviews in order to determine design and repair options. Prepare budgets and obtain approvals for implementation of the work.
- Develop, manage, and coordinate the overall capital strategies for the new construction and the phased renewal of existing facilities.
- Obtain all the authorizations required from the appropriate authority and government departments for the implementation of the projects.
- Ensure that funding is spent in accordance with the applicable rules and standards and that budgets are followed.
- Maintain accurate records for financial tracking and change management.
- Prepare Requests For Proposals (RFP) to procure the services of outside consultants and administers tenders for project implementation.
- Provide information and interpretation of building codes, regulations, and interfaces with subject-matter experts in a variety of technical areas to obtain technical input as required.
- Responsible for development of working drawings, specifications, and other contract documents.
- Maintain a continuing review of mechanical specifications and guides, provincial, federal, and civic codes and regulations related to school design to ensure that work is performed per these requirements.
- Perform necessary site inspections and advise external consultants and/or contractors on matters pertaining to the mechanical engineering requirements for all new school construction and major renovation and upgrading projects.
- Provide backup engineering services and troubleshooting to the Maintenance and Operations Divisions to resolve technical design difficulties in maintaining and operating mechanical systems of existing buildings.
- Analyze, prepare, and recommend cost estimates, feasibility studies, energy-efficient systems, and research on project specific scope. Maintain and update the necessary technical information, cost records, and other technical literature.
