Description:

POSITIION SUMMARY

The Project Manager will manage all off-reserve Seabird-led environmental projects. They will work closely with external environmental consultants and government representatives to ensure projects are well-designed and adhere to technical and regulatory requirements. Projects may include construction environmental management on reserve, contaminated sites investigations and remediations, aquatic habitat restoration, and environmental assessments involving surveying and monitoring.
The Project Manager will have a background in Biology or other Environmental Science and be able to provide the technical skills and knowledge required to advise on environment-related matters. They will be required to delegate tasks, manage budgets, problem-solve, communicate effectively, and prepare reports, proposals, summaries, and work plans. The Project Manager will build important relationships with a range of internal and external partners throughout the region including federal and provincial governing bodies. They will advocate for First Nations fisheries and lobby Indigenous Rights as they relate to traditional territory and natural resources under Section 35, UNDRIP, and DRIPA. Leadership skills are key as this individual will be responsible for leading the Fish Wildlife and Natural Resources team to ensure that the program is actively working to meet the Nation’s goals and is upholding its values.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in biology, environmental planning, environmental science, natural resources, or a related field. We also recognize and value cultural knowledge and experience gained through other forms of education and training, including teachings from Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
  • Project Management certification is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 2 years in an environmental field such as fisheries, wildlife, contaminated sites, or construction environmental management.
  • Holding or working towards professional accreditation (e.g. R.P.Bio).
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance and industry best practice including mitigation measures for construction projects.

Preferred:

  • Indigenous candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Lived experience as a member of a First Nations community.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Seabird Island’s culture, traditions, teachings, community dynamics.
  • Ability to respond quickly and professionally to community or colleague needs and inquiries.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience developing reports, proposals, cost estimates, and presentations.
  • Experience working with Indigenous Groups and in multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Experience with primary and secondary research including data collection, management, analysis, and interpretation.
