POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Manager for Rapid Case Ascertainment (RCA) will manage and direct multiple complex research projects under the RCA umbrella from development to start-up and conclusion across all projects with a focus on quality performance, attention to details, and ensuring budgeting requirements. This position reports directly to the Facility Director. The successful applicant will be responsible for the day-to-day administrative, operational and project management work of ongoing research. Duties may include coordination of project stakeholders, participation in project design and implementation, leading discussions with administrative and clinical project partners, monitoring of project progress and goals and assisting with budgetary management. This position will manage the development and implementation of all aspects of large epidemiological studies of cancer within North Carolina. The successful candidate will monitor study timelines and research activities, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, standard operation procedures (SOPs), the study protocols, and overall research objectives. The successful candidate will ensure the appropriate rules and regulations are followed that flow from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Position will also entail development of research databases for a variety of project types (i.e., cancer treatment, disparities, and causes and patterns of disease and illness), primary data collection (working with hospital-based registries), and database maintenance (current databases to be overhauled and this position will be instrumental in development). The RCA studies are geared toward population sciences within Epidemiology public health. Responsibilities include overall project direction, budgeting and fiscal responsibility and direction of data collection and analysis, database management, grant support, presentation development, reporting and planning, leading the team to efficiency, and strong customer service. This position will collaborate with investigators across multiple departments, centers, and schools at UNC and elsewhere as well as collaborate with the individuals at the Central Cancer Registry and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to foster new research collaborations and sustain productive research initiatives. Strong interpersonal skills and experience interacting and working with diverse and/or vulnerable populations are essential to this position. The position requires substantial capacity to independently manage and oversee research activities and collaborate with the RCA Team and stakeholders to ensure efficiency across multiple projects. Will train new employees as required.
This position will be responsible for performing or managing the following: assistance to external studies on protocol development, IRB submissions, and Standard Operating Procedures. This position will be responsible for budgeting and fiscal management, supervision and direction of data collection and analysis, presentation development, reporting and planning, coding and cleaning, and database development and management.
This position operates with autonomy and works collaboratively with the Facility Director, the PI’s, department staff, and leadership on assigned projects. This position will be responsible for the development, evaluation, and management of research guidelines and serves as the main contact for the assigned studies, and must trouble shoot any issues that arise. This position will serve as the subject matter expert for RCA and will present services in multiple forums to ensure active interest in the services RCA provides. This position is responsible for evaluating and modifying data collection methodologies, preparing study-related enrollment and retention reports, and supporting study-related communications across study team, partners, and relevant stakeholders.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience facilitating database design and data extraction.
  • Excellent organizations skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, self-motivation, demonstrated capacity for working independently, and engaging in innovative problem-solving.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Preference will be given to the candidate with relevant experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, analyzing data, preparing and managing research budgets for a core, in depth knowledge of Central Cancer Registry Processes as they work with Rapid Case Ascertainment.
  • Preference will be given to the candidate with the following relevant experience: managing multi-site or multidisciplinary research projects; analyzing quantitative data; and/or preparing reports for stakeholders.
