Description:

We are looking for a Project Manager this year to support a £172,000 National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) project that will lay the foundations for a larger capital project.
Dean Heritage Centre, in Gloucestershire, is the home of the Forest of Dean’s history and memories. Located in the heart of the Forest, it receives 12,000 visitors per annum. The displays and collections tell the stories of a rich industrial past (free-mining and forestry) and literary heritage (including manuscripts from Dennis Potter). The Grade II listed Mill building, with its waterwheel, houses the Museum displays and is surrounded by five acres of woodland that are used for craft events and education activities with local schools.
DHC has an ambition to transform the Museum, visitor facilities and surrounding landscape to make it more relevant to a wider range of audiences, preserve the heritage and to make the Heritage Centre sustainable in the long term.
As a first step, the Trustees want to make sure that vision is realistic by commissioning the following reports:

Business Options Appraisal - to maximise existing revenue and find new income sources.

  • Audience Development - market research will identify new audiences and involve consultation and pilot projects to find out what people want to see and do on site.
  • Collections Review - to assess the significance of our collections and develop ideas for displays
  • Topographical Survey and a Biodiversity Survey - to analyse the best ways to develop and use the outside space
  • Hydrogeological Survey - to help us understand why the site floods and what mitigation measures we can take.

The biodiversity survey will be supported by a planned programme of citizen science activities involving the community and all the work will be evaluated.
We need a pro-active, self-starter to provide hands-on leadership in the management of the project and consultants to achieve successful completion by December 2025. Starting as soon as possible, and finishing in December 2025, the fixed fee for the Project Manager role is £30,000, excluding VAT but including all expenses.
