THE POSITION
We are seeking dynamic, self-motivated candidates with good communication and people skills, and with a proven background in managing Research and Development (R&D) projects for both internal and external customers. As an Project Manager at MDA, you will enjoy interesting, challenging work and many benefits. You will be given the responsibility to manage projects in high technology, engineering domains often using advanced technologies. You will be part of a company that is known internationally for successfully completing highly complex and innovative projects. You will build, motivate and lead project teams, with support from various departments that will provide specialist staff, to achieve the project objectives. There will be opportunities to work with highly experienced Engineers and travel to meet with customers.
REQUIREMENTS (EXPERIENCE/SKILLS):
- Master’s or PhD degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
- Project management experience is an asset, preferably in a commercial/industrial research and development context with project budgets of up to $1M.
- Formal Project Management training (e.g. MBA, PMI) is an asset.
- Experience managing fixed-price or time and materials projects where you deal with significant risks relating to scope, technology, cost, and schedule.
- Experience in leading and writing successful proposals is an asset, preferably to Canadian Government research and development programs, such as those offered by the Canadian Space Agency and Defence Research and Development Canada.
- Proven ability to learn and effectively tackle work in new domains. Experience in the field of Earth Observation, Remote Sensing and Software Engineering is very valuable.
- Have managed a group of up to 5 staff (mix of technical staff and non-technical administrative support, including project accountant and contract staff).
- You are known for your exceptional leadership skills, problem solving abilities, and strong capabilities in planning, organizing and progress control. You have negotiation skills, the ability to delegate, the ability to work and communicate with various levels of an organization.
- Have the ability to form and maintain long-term partnerships with commercial and academic organizations, that may be part of a single, multi-stakeholder project.

The compensation range for this position is $102,000-$114,000 annually. The specific compensation offered will be based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
Responsibilities:
- You will be responsible for managing teams through the entire research and development process.
- Your responsibilities will include delivering quality products and services within a committed budget and schedule, project planning and tracking, resource assignment, external and internal communications, risk management, contractual issues resolution, subcontractor management, and, most importantly, building a strong, well-motivated project team.
- You will also participate in bids and proposals, including customer liaison, solution, cost estimation and review.
- You will prepare customer reports and presentations and review technical documentation prepared by your team.
- You will contribute to defining directions for future research and business growth.
