Overview of the role
Reporting to the Director, Sustainability, the Project Manager, Packaging will work collaboratively to enable and drive sustainable packaging initiatives to align with our Corporate Responsibility strategy and deliver progress towards our Environmental Pledges. The individual will lead packaging development programs, concept to commercialization for innovation, growth and cost savings to meet business objectives.
Salary ranges from $88 325 to $115 930* Salary offers will vary commensurate with experience, education, skills, and training.**

How you will make contributions that matter:

  • Lead/participate on cross-functional productivity teams that contribute to overall company cost savings objectives.
  • Ensure key packaging performance, functionality and quality measurements are developed and specified;
  • Ensure internal and external packaging guidelines and requirements are successfully implemented;
  • Identify and conduct packaging performance testing on materials and components;
  • Participate in the packaging teams productivity efforts across multiple brands and categories;
  • Design test plans and leverage external resources to trouble shoot issues, identify root causes and insure corrective actions are implemented for project issues;
  • Work with Operations and Engineering, participating in the identification, selection, testing and start-up of related equipment in production facilities;
  • Coordinate and perform packaging line trials;
  • Develop packaging specifications for new and /or existing products;
  • Partner with Procurement to select and manage key engineering suppliers and Work closely with packaging suppliers to identify appropriate packaging components and materials.
  • Work with Strategic Business Development team to test new packaging ideas.
  • Identify, develop and execute projects that support the Packaging targets of our Environmental Pledges:
  • Reduce our material use by 15%;
  • Ensure 100% of our packaging is reusable, recyclable or compostable;
  • Ensure our packaging includes at least 15% of recycled or renewable content.
  • Influence senior management in integrating sustainable packaging into business operations;
  • Identify and apply for applicable grants and certifications.

You are best suited for the role if you have the following qualifications:

  • Education – Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 5-7 years of direct experience in packaging or 15 years of direct professional experience in packaging or process engineering in the consumer-packaged goods (CPG) industry (food and beverage and/or dairy are preferred).
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project (desired), and knowledge of test methodology.
  • Strong customer orientation; ability to develop relationships and effectively influence at all levels internally (e.g. management teams) and externally (e.g. suppliers).
  • Project management skills (budget, deadlines, stakeholders, presentations, etc.).
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization skills, presentation skills, and attention to detail;
  • Bilingualism (French and English) in both spoken and written forms is mandatory if the person is based in Quebec, as the project manager will interact with the team and other key stakeholders across Canada. Other provinces: French is considered an asset, but is not required
  • Willingness to travel (approx. 30%).
