The Opportunity
Our Power & Energy Solutions (PES) – Operations Engineering team is looking to add a Project Manager, Power Operations Engineering to the multi-disciplinary team responsible for the proposal, initiation, execution, and completion of Operations & General Plant Maintenance Capital (GPMC) projects for our Canadian Power and Gas Storage Assets, based in Calgary, AB.
Reporting to the Manager, Operations Engineering (PES), this position is a key contributor to the management of GPMC project implementation to achieve reliable operations and continuous improvement of all facilities that form TC Energy’s power plant and unregulated gas storage locations. Project performance will be measured on the ability to deliver projects on schedule, within budget and in compliance with TC Energy’s Project Delivery Standards.
What you will do
- Work closely with Engineering, Project Management, Operations, Commercial, Supply Chain, Compliance, Legal and other internal/external stakeholders to plan, organize and execute GPMC projects
- Lead and manage definition of projects, scope development, detailed engineering and construction activities, including development of cost and schedule estimates and execution plans for all phases of the project
- Create project execution plans to encompass schedules, budgets, resource requirements, permits and regulatory requirements
- Work with Supply Chain to support engineering & construction contract formation, contractor selection and recommendations to award project work (this will include reviewing vendor quotations, preparing or supporting the development of technical specifications for bids, and completing project walk downs prior to bidding)
- Manage the progress and quality of design deliverables performed by engineering consultants and vendors; ensure design reviews for projects are completed and teams such as operations and maintenance are appropriately engaged during design
- Ensure compliance with project Quality Management Plan, develop quality practices and procedures as required
- Provide engineering technical support in field during construction and commissioning activities
- Identify, analyze, and manage risk on projects
- Manage projects to stay within budget and on schedule (including project cost and financial requirements such as the request for AFE’s, PO’s etc.)
- Ensure proper commissioning and turnover to operations for projects.
- Ensure completion of pre-start safety review (PSSR), QA/QC documentation, drawing modifications, close-out of punch list items, and training is complete where appropriate
- Provide leadership and influence in the continuous development of project management tools and processes
- Make independent decisions and communicate recommendations to management and other affected parties in a way that fosters consensus and collaboration and facilitates efficient outcomes
- Routine preparation and presentation of project updates to management
Minimum Qualifications
- Post-Secondary degree in Engineering
- Registered, or eligible to register, with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing
- Six years of progressive relevant experience in energy processing facilities
- Previous project management experience, including a demonstrated familiarity with project management principles and practices and project leadership experience
- Proficient in reading and understanding mechanical discipline drawings including P&IDs, piping isometrics, general arrangements, mechanical system drawings
- Proven experience working independently to organize, plan, coordinate, and manage multiple projects / tasks simultaneously including providing daily field support
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computer systems and software applications with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel, Word and Project as well as SAP
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven experience in power generation and/or gas storage facilities (i.e. installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance)
- Demonstrated Field Project experience (including with facility construction and facility operations)
- Understanding of operations safety practices such as LOTO, Permit to Work, JSA / FLHA, risk assessment
- Working knowledge of ASME, ABSA, AER, CSA, AESO and regulatory codes related to the operation of power and gas storage facilities
This position requires candidates to:
- Complete pre-employment medical screening including drug and alcohol testing
- Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and provide a driver’s abstract (a record) for review
- This position will involve travel and overnight stays away from home (estimated up to 30% of work schedule) including up to 30 days at a time on occasion
- Have current, valid authorization to travel internationally (including but not limited to Canada, US and Mexico)
