Description:
Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
Are you a skilled project manager with a strong interest in renewable and sustainable energy?
Scottish Water Horizons has an active portfolio of renewable projects, including solar, hydro, wind, biogas, biomass and heat pumps. To date we have developed over 70 renewable energy projects of varying scales across the Scottish Water estate – with more to come. Already we’ve paved the way with pioneering solutions and have broken new ground with innovative technologies. The goal is to meet our ambitious Net Zero targets in response to the climate emergency, including a target of producing 90GWh of renewable power by 2030.
We’re looking for someone who is up for the challenge. Someone who can develop and shape solar, hydro, wind renewable projects from conception until they move into delivery. Someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced and driven environment. Someone who has drive and is passionate about making a difference.
What you’ll do
It’s an exciting time to be joining our team as we enter a new phase of growth. We have bold ambitions. We are ramping up the pace and scale of our projects and we’re working with some of the brightest people in the industry.
You’ll have the opportunity to manage exciting new and existing projects across Scotland to ensure they meet our high standards and specifications. You’ll be working collaboratively with internal and external team members to ensure successful project delivery.
You’ll be part of our talented Business Development team, who collectively drive projects from concept through feasibility and design to approval and investment before handing over to the project delivery teams to make them a reality.
Day to day you can expect to be:
- Making sure that the project and programme outputs are achieved as agreed, all within time, budget, and quality standards.
- Actively managing all risks and changes associated with the scouting and developing of opportunities (creative thinking is welcomed and embraced).
- Establishing and maintaining good collaboration by creating an environment of trusted relationships with all key stakeholders (internally & external).
- Directly managing relationship and commercial activity with our delivery partners ensuring the successful delivery of the agreed outputs across the business.
- Presenting business cases and updates to internal and external stakeholders, where required.
- Preparing and submitting all monthly management and performance reports surrounding delivery
What you’ll need
We’re looking for candidates who can demonstrate experience and in-depth knowledge of one or more of the following renewable technologies: solar, hydro and wind. Candidates having a Project Management, Electrical, Mechanical or Civil background would be advantageous but not essential.
You’ll have good commercial and contract awareness, with the ability to review initial feasibility reports and proposals for initial design/investment approvals.
You will also have the ability to manage changes and variations within projects – and understanding the implications of those changes. That is why you’ll need a good understanding of the technical aspects of work being carried out so that you can spot risks and communicate effectively with key players and service providers.
Personality wise, you’ll be someone who enjoys getting things done! You’ll need the motivation to drive projects to completion on time and on budget. And the conscientiousness required to set milestones, monitor performance of projects and keeping stakeholders up to date.
This role will require occasional travel to Scottish Water sites – some of which are remote - so you will need a UK-issued driving license.
Looking out for you
While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.
For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print
The employer for this role is Scottish Water Horizons. They are a wholly owned subsidiary of Scottish Water, dedicated to advancing the sustainability agenda.
This role will be a Grade 7. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a salary between £41,000 - £51,970, depending on your skills and experience. Performance-driven pay progression will then allow you to move through the range to the maximum salary.
In November 2024, we are moving to a 35hr week to support the wellbeing and work/life balance of our employees.
If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be reviewing and accepting applications until 24th of October 2024. We’re aiming to do interviews for this role w/c 11th November 2024.
A few final things worth knowing…
Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out!
Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We’re also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.
As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you’ll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.
Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
