ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The School of History, Religions and Philosophies (HRP) is a vibrant, highly specialised community that covers the histories, systems of belief and thought in Africa, Asia and the Near and Middle East. It is unique in the field for approaching teaching and research from the perspective of Asia and Africa, rather than through a western-centric framework, and for exploring in depth the dynamic histories of these regions, as well as their traditions, systems of belief and thought. The innovative and progressive teaching of the School has contributed to its recent ranking of 10th in the UK and 39th in the world (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017) for history; and 17th in the UK for religions and philosophies.
About the Role
This role will support Dr Romina Istratii’s team to manage the renewal phase of Project dldl/ድልድል, including a new Institute emerging from the first 4 years of the project.
Project dldl/ድልድል is a UKRI-funded project that is dedicated to the development of religio-culturally sensitive domestic violence and abuse (DVA) alleviation systems in Ethiopia and the UK. The project comprises of a series of research, sensitisation, knowledge exchange and public engagement activities involving collaborators, stakeholders and communities in Ethiopia, the UK and other partner countries with the aims of: a) improving preparedness among clergy and seminarians to respond to DVA victims and perpetrators, b) increasing religio-cultural sensitivity in the NGO/state-led DVA sectors, c) developing integrated DVA systems and better served affected populations, and d) promoting reciprocal research partnerships & mutual professional development for all team members and personnel.
The role holder will provide effective and efficient project management support for all elements of the project including budgeting and finance, team management, data management, communication, monitoring and evaluation and dissemination strategies, and strategic partnerships with link institutions in the UK and overseas.
The role holder will be expected to plan and organise their own work in line with the expectations agreed with the PI. They will be expected to use creativity, initiative and analytical skills to independently address and resolve non-standard problems and work issues that may arise, and will be expected to put forward recommendations and contribute to the management of more complex situations or longer-term issues.
