Description:

The British Heart Foundation has recently awarded one of its Centres of Research Excellence to The University of Manchester. This award, for five years starting 1st October 2024, recognises the internationally leading cardiovascular science performed in our University, and will provide £4M over the next five years to further develop our excellence. The University has matched the BHF investment with £4M of its own money. This £8M total commitment represents the most significant initiative in cardiovascular research in Manchester this century. The Centre will be interdisciplinary, involving not only basic cardiovascular scientists and clinicians, but colleagues in inflammation biology, data science, computer science and engineering. We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and dynamic Project Manager to play an integral part in our delivery of this new Centre.
The British Heart Foundation is one of the largest charitable funders of heart and circulatory research in the world. BHF funds around half of all the cardiovascular research that is performed in the UK, and focuses its resources on scientifically excellent projects with a potential to benefit the health of people with, or at risk of, cardiovascular disease. BHF funded research has delivered many key advances for patients and their families, many of which are detailed on the BHF website.
The post-holder will be a key contributor to the BHF Manchester Centre of Research Excellence, supporting the management of the programme alongside the Director (Professor Bernard Keavney) and Deputy Director (Professor Maciej Tomaszewski). Our Centre of Research Excellence focuses on driving forward cardiovascular research across five research themes: Cardiovascular Genetics and Genomics; Cardiac and Vascular Inflammation; Heart Failure; Data Science; and Computational Modelling/Artificial Intelligence. Duties of the post will include: managing internal calls for pump-priming grant and PhD Studentship awards; coordinating external calls for Transitional Fellowships; supporting principal investigators with Ethics and regulatory submissions; assisting the Directors with periodic reporting requirements; organising and supporting the annual meeting of the International Scientific Advisory Board; liaising with the Finance team about budgetary management, monitoring and collating outcomes and achievements; and working with Division, School and Faculty administrative colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the Centre.
