Employment opportunity (full-time) to support an expanding research team in Department of Food Science, located at Macdonald Campus (in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue)
Consortium RITA (Recherche Innovation pour la transformation des aliments)’s goal is to foster and establish collaboration between Quebec-based research institutions and partners from the food-processing industry. Consortium RITA aims at reinforcing the competitive capacity of businesses in the food transformation industry by increasing their ability to conduct collaborative research and development initiatives, and launching new technological innovations, for the benefits of all partners.
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Consortium Director, each Project Officer is responsible for the management of the Consortium’s various activities, including but not limited to, liaison activities with industrial, governmental, and academic partners, and dissemination and implementation of the Consortium’s projects. Provide professional expertise in all facets of the Consortium’s activities, within the portfolio of industrial sector(s) and partners assigned to each Project Officer.
Project Management
Manage project intake and project approval process. Receive project proposals, review and analyze, provide preliminary opinions as to eligibility and feasibility. Develop and implement monitoring mechanisms for tracking progress of approved projects.
Solicit, review and analyze industrial data for co-creation project development.
Responsible for seeking information and consolidation of submissions, leading to production and dissemination of various reports to stakeholders.
Convene, and may be required to chair, meetings of the various committees of the Consortium, including working sessions with industry and other partners. [partners such Agropur, Exceldor, Première Moisson, Lassonde, Cascades, Novalait, SaldExpress, etc.]
Apply sound project management practices. Participates in project monitoring committees.
Ensure that data is compiled and published as a means to account for performance/progress indicators and milestones.
Plan, initiate, organize, lead various science communication activities. Evaluate all research activities carried out and implement improvements in delivery and/or contents as needed. Oversee and approve logistics associated with holding certain Consortium special events.
Holds briefing sessions with Consortium Director.
Develop preliminary drafting of project funding applications, and consolidate final submission.
Communications
Act as expert contact person for all stakeholders and advise on overall day-to-day matters, processes and activities of the Consortium.
Manage all communications and networking with stakeholders. Write contents and/or promotional material for a variety of purposes and disseminate through several platforms (website, webinar, online newsletters, PowerPoint presentations, etc.)
Apply scientific monitoring and ensure its dissemination. Collaborate with Principal Investigators with regards to dissemination of intellectual property.
Partnership Development
Seek letters of commitment from partners. Ensure that partnership agreements are fully ratified, implemented, and in compliance with governance requirements.
Participate in pro-active identification of new partners.
Engage and participate in networking and knowledge transfer activities.
- Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- University degree in a discipline relevant to the agri-food industry. Graduate degree, an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in project management or relevant experience in a liaison role in a research environment.
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Partnership-oriented attitude; demonstrated interpersonal skills, motivation and ability to exercise diplomacy.
- Intermediate computer skills and readiness to learn new skills.
- Knowledge of English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # 3 (Advanced) in both oral and written English, on a scale of 0-4.” Fluency in spoken and written French is also mandatory in this role.
