The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) at NTU Singapore hosts research and education activities in two divisions: Division of Mathematical Sciences (MAS) and Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP). MAS covers diverse topics ranging from pure mathematics to the applications of mathematics in cryptography, computing, business, and finance. PAP covers many areas of fundamental and applied physics, including quantum information, condensed matter physics, biophysics, and photonics. Over the years, SPMS has attracted talented individuals from around the world and Singapore to join as scientific leaders and researchers.
SPMS is looking for a Project Officer to join the laboratory of Prof Chia at the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. The hire is part of a Tier 3 grant award for research in 2D materials, with funding available over the next five years. Materials and/or devices will be characterized using a unique combination of terahertz (THz) emission spectroscopy, THz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) and time-resolved THz spectroscopy (TRTS).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work on novel 2D materials, including fabricating 2D materials and conducting optical and electronic sample characterizations, especially in the terahertz range
  • Responsible to make regular progress reports to the PI
  • Handle operation, maintenance, and modification of scientific equipment in Prof. Chia’s laboratory
  • Handle management of project issues, including related paperwork
  • Handle material characterization and measurements in the terahertz range
  • Prepare scientific publications

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in in physics/optics is mandatory
  • Demonstrated strong experimental skills and track record of research achievements
  • Demonstrated ability to publish high-tier research publications
