We are seeking a Project Scientist/Technologist to work closely with Project Managers to complete Asbestos Assessments, Hazardous Building Materials Assessments, Indoor Air Quality Assessments, Mould Assessments, and Remediation/Abatement Projects; in addition to other environmental health and safety scopes of work. The successful candidate will be self organized with the ability to complete projects on time and within budget.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Complete all activities associated with Asbestos Assessments, Hazardous Building Materials Assessments, Indoor Air Quality Assessments, Mould Assessments and Remediation/Abatement Projects including, but not limited to site visits, collecting samples and laboratory submissions, supervising contractors, historical and regulatory searches, and reporting as required.
  • Manage time of projects effectively and efficiently (site visit schedules, reporting deadlines, sample and time budgets, etc.).
  • Executing technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness, and adherence to prescribed data quality objectives.
  • Review analytical results and site findings and prepare technical reports on completed field investigations including drawings and tables, as required.
  • Work with the HazMat Group to develop proposals (work plan, cost estimate), coordinate all phases of the work, and setup projects.
  • Work with Project Manager to refine technical findings and recommendations for further investigations based on the results of an assessment.
  • Coordinating with the subcontractors and clients to ensure health and safety needs are met during HazMat work.
  • Professionalism in all communication with the client and subcontractors (in person, emails, phone calls, etc.), under the supervision of a Project Manager.
  • Contributes to internal procedures (including finding efficiencies and continuous improvement) as part of dynamic, fast paced environmental consulting company.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in environmental science/technology/engineering or a related field
  • Preferred: Eligibility for registration as an environmental professional (EP) or a certified engineering technologist (CET). or other equivalent such Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Water Resources Technician (WRT), Advance Microbial Remediation Technician (AMRT), Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program (C-NRPP), etc.)
  • Required: About 1 to 3 years of progressive environmental consulting experience in Hazardous Building Materials Assessments, Indoor Air Quality Assessments, Mould Assessments, and Remediation/Abatement Projects.
  • Required: Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations, guidelines, and standards in Ontario and nationally.
  • Required: Experience in supervision of subcontractors and other consultants
  • Preferred: Experience in on-site asbestos air sample Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) analysis
  • Preferred: Knowledge of building systems (structure, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.)
  • Preferred: Familiarity reading and interpreting architectural drawings and other consulting reports
  • Required: Valid drivers` license. Applicant must own their own vehicle with appropriate insurance. Rental cars will be used for longer distance or out of province site visits.
  • Required: Strong technical ability with AutoCAD.
