POSITION OVERVIEW

Salary range: $74,100/yr. - $195,000/yr.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Department of Physiology/DGSOM is recruiting for a Project Scientist position in Dr. Bavi’s laboratory.
A Project Scientist position is available for motivated individuals within Dr. Navid Bavi’s laboratory at UCLA’s Department of Physiology. In this lab, we investigate the mechanisms of various sensory membrane proteins using advanced techniques such as single-particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and patch-clamp electrophysiology. These proteins include mechanosensitive ion channels, anion transporters, and motor proteins. While experience in electrophysiology or cryo-EM is desirable, it is not mandatory. We are seeking candidates who are creative and eager to learn diverse approaches. Our lab at UCLA emphasizes fostering individual growth within a collaborative community. We are dedicated to supporting every member’s career journey.
Depending on their background, each appointee will actively participate in multiple projects and publications, immersing themselves in one of the leading institutions for biomedical research globally. They will learn and exercise skills in biophysics, biochemistry, and structural biology. Job responsibilities include supporting the Principal Investigator (PI) in the design and execution of funded projects, which involves preparing supramolecular vectors and conducting structural and functional studies of membrane proteins. Additionally, responsibilities include assisting the PI in study design, managing day-to-day tasks related to project management, analyzing data, preparing and submitting manuscripts, and supervising graduate/undergraduate students as well as junior postdoctoral fellows in the group.
This General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Statement for Persons in the European Economic Area is designed to provide information regarding the types of Personal Information that the University of California’s Human Resources departments and offices collects.
Please be advised that the final candidate recommended for hire into a critical (or otherwise designated) position will be required to successfully complete a background investigation. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.
