Description:

BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS

Must hold a university degree in accounting and working towards designation. Must be detailed-oriented and a team player with at least two to three years of progressive accounting experience. Must have a positive “can do” attitude with a proven track record for meeting/exceeding deadlines, and produce accurate work.
Excellent working knowledge of Excel and computerized accounting systems. Must be able to communicate effectively, both written and orally, in the English language. Must be willing to learn new concepts in the monthly accounting cycle. Must be self motivated, possess strong organizational and analytical skills and have the desire to learn. Understanding of the Retirement Residences Regulations and experience with retirement living is an asset. Experience with Sage 300 as asset. Experience working with multiple entities simultaneously.

Responsibilities:

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE

Under the direction of the Controller, this role is responsible for various aspects of the monthly full accounting cycle for certain residences and corporate entities including reconciliations, payroll, compliance, entity financial and management reports, tax and other government compliance, forecasting, budgeting and continuous improvement of the company’s financial reporting systems and processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with the full accounting cycle, including general ledger, account reconciliation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll for residences and Corporate entities.
  • Prepares journal entries for both day-to-day and month-end transactions.
  • Preparation of monthly financial statements, working papers, and financial reports
  • Maintains and reconciles sub-ledgers to G/L.
  • Prepares/assists with monthly balance sheet reconciliations and a complete set of year end working papers.
  • Reviews financial information, analyzes and processes that information, and takes the appropriate action if necessary.
  • Analyzes, investigates, and resolves monthly variances.
  • Prepares monthly variances report on significant matters to the operations and/or controller.
  • Responsible for remittance of payroll related amounts, including Federal tax, CPP, EI, Workers Compensation and EHT.
  • Monitors cash flow and prepares cash flow projections, where applicable.
  • Prepares budgets and forecasts for residences and Corporate entities.
  • Tracks capital expenditure again capital budgets and ensures proper categorization and depreciation of assets.
  • Advises and provides finance support to the residences as required.
  • Liaises with resident GM’s and research and resolve residences inquiries.
  • Ensures compliance with GAAP.
  • Prepares year-end audit packages and liaises with external auditors.
  • Ensure that all regulatory and government returns and reporting (GST/HST, annual returns) are filed on time.
  • Coordinates and works with investor group in order to comply with their requirements in a timely manner.
  • Works independently and with minimum supervision.
  • Complies with all corporate policies and procedures.
  • Completes all required mandatory training and education.
  • Performs other related tasks as delegated by the Controller and/or Director of Finance.
  • Some travel required.
  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
  • Complies with all corporate policies and procedures.
  • Completes all required mandatory training/education.
  • Please note: This is a Hybrid Remote position - 2 Days in office, 3 Days work from home.
