Description:
We are inviting applications for the role of Property Accountant in the Real Estate Property/Facilities Management industry. This role is based in SOUTHFIELD, Michigan, and offers an exciting opportunity to manage the financial aspects of our commercial property portfolio. As a Property Accountant, you will be working closely with our finance team and property managers, ensuring accurate financial reporting and maintaining proper accounting records.

- Possession of a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in the field of property accounting or 3 plus years of general ledger accounting, through financial statement preparation.
- Proficiency in analyzing financial statements and preparing financial reports.
- Demonstrated experience in general ledger maintenance and variance analysis.
- Ability to handle budgeting and forecasting tasks effectively.
- Familiarity with property accounting practices and regulations.
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of financial data.
- A proactive approach to work, demonstrating initiative and a positive attitude
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and present detailed financial reports for commercial properties, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Perform variance analysis to understand and explain discrepancies between actual and budgeted figures.
- Monitor and maintain accurate general ledger entries for all commercial properties.
- Review and reconcile various financial accounts including bank statements, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles, policies, and relevant regulations.
- Collaborate with property managers to develop annual budgets for commercial properties.
- Monitor budget performance and provide regular reports on financial variances.
- Assist in the preparation of financial forecasts and projections.
- Manage lease-related financial activities, such as rent collection and reconciliation.
- Calculate and process annual operating expense reconciliations for tenants, and assist in lease renewal negotiations.
- Support internal and external audits by providing accurate financial records and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations, and stay updated on accounting standards and industry best practices.
