Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
HIAS seeks a protection officer responsible for conducting case management interviews with refugee and migrant population that approach HIAS looking for guidance, support of other services. This person will support in providing cash-based assistance to families that meet the vulnerability criteria. The protection asistant will also support the department in other protection related activities such as community outreach events.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Professional with experience in development process and social/humanitarian work.
- Strong motivation for humanitarian work, service-oriented mindset, and sense of accountability
- Demonstrated ability to think creatively and critically.
- Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation, flexible, and can cope with stressful workloads and working with limited resources.
- Able to think outside of the box for sustainable community-based solutions and work with an empowerment and development approach.
- Able to self-troubleshoot when issues arise or have a solution-based mind-set to approaching new challenges.
- Proficient at managing oneself in a fast-paced environment with constant developments using organization and structure.
- Excellent time-management skills to accurately allocate the needed time during tasks and able to rapidly move on to the next one.
- Fluency in Spanish and English is required, Papiamento and Dutch are an advantage.
- Excellent computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
- Attention to detail during data entry to ensure data quality.
- Must be a team player and able to work with a range of diverse and vulnerable populations.
- Ability to uphold the highest level of integrity and confidentiality.

- Position open to persons with a valid working permit in Aruba

Responsibilities:
- Support in conducting various need assessments with PoC and do home visits to assess and or verify the socio-economic situation.
- Ensures constant and accurate upkeep of data (physical and electronic) (Case management system of HIAS and UNHCR proGres data base) to reflect the status of persons of concern by checking that all data fields are filled in properly; manages and updates beneficiaries’ files as necessary.
- Assist in distribution cash-based interventions, food vouchers and other services.
- Assists protection department with day-to-day operation, will assist with necessary administrative paperwork related to assistance and work with data.
- Attend regular staff meetings, trainings and other meetings as required and ensure regular personal development and supervision.
- Assist in identifying cases for resettlement officer.
- Attend and assist in community-based activities, to identify and refer to intervention and / or other activities/services.
- Performs other duties, as necessary.
- Is able to start As soon as possible.
