JOB SUMMARY:
The National Gallery is looking to expand its Protection Services Operations team with the flexibility of full-time, part time or on call hours. The National Gallery of Canada offers extensive training, competitive wages including shift premiums, and a safe, progressive, and inspiring work environment in a convenient downtown Ottawa location.
Under the direct supervision of the National Gallery’s Duty Officer, the Protection Officer is responsible for monitoring and operating Fire, HVAC, CCTV and Security systems in a dedicated Security Operations Centre (SOC). They initiate and coordinate appropriate emergency response and control all security communications, including multiple radio channels, Email, chat-based collaboration hub, intercoms, and telephones. The Protection Officer conducts patrols of on and off-site locations, initiates investigations, inspections, writes incident reports, and provides emergency response while not posted in the SOC. The candidate may be required to carry out physical security escorts in a follow car with travelling exhibitions and will be involved with security functions during various Special Events and VIP functions. The National Gallery uses a hybrid security force with an in-house Protection Services division and a separate contract guard force. We are a client-facing institution, and you will be actively interacting with the public to resolve and de-escalate potential issues. Shifts are scheduled as far in advance as possible with the opportunity for additional shifts on short notice. Overtime shifts are allotted based on accrued hours and availability (Officers with the least number of hours are contacted first). We are growing our department and will be creating a pool of successful candidates for future opportunities.
