Description:
We have immediate, rewarding career opportunities for a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join our amazing team at Ravensview, part of Homewood Health, the national leader in mental health and addictions treatment in Canada. Responsibilities:
Part of an interdisciplinary team, you will provide direct health care services to patients presenting with a wide variety of complex addictions and mental health issues, perform physical, addiction, and mental status assessments and refer patients to the physician for further examination.
You will also observe, monitor, evaluate and document patient progress, symptoms and behavioral changes and perform a variety of health care interventions, working collaboratively with other members of the interdisciplinary team, the patient, families and the community.
- Implement the principles and practices of a patient and family centered recovery model in mental health and addictions treatment
- Conduct comprehensive mental health and addiction risk assessments, formulate treatment and discharge plans and provide crisis intervention
- Perform detox assessments
- Provide counselling, education and support to individual patients as well as in a group therapy environment, using a motivational and health promotion approach
- Communicate and collaborate with patients and families about health findings, diagnosis, treatment, self-care and prognosis
- Assess patients daily for care needs and follow up; consult with doctors and clinical team members about patient care
- Collaborate with patients and other health professionals to identify and assess trends and patterns that have implications for patients, families and communities
- Assess and recognize population health trends; plan and implement strategies for population based prevention
- Analyze and synthesize all available information for the development of an individualized treatment plan in collaboration with patients and families
- Identify and respond appropriately to legal and ethical issues that may arise in patient care
- Provide safe and respectful health care planning and direction to maximize patient health and well-being
- Develop and implement evidence-based strategies to improve care and participate in creating and evaluating health care policies
- Conduct day-to-day care delivery to patients and administer medications
- Act in the nurse in charge position when required
Mentor and act as a preceptor for students
What we’re looking for:
Bachelor degree or College Diploma from an accredited Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing program
- Two years’ recent related experience in a mental health and/or substance use setting
- Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals
- Comprehensive knowledge of mental disorders, addictions and concurrent disorders, and the treatment and principles of recovery in mental illness and addictions, including suicide prevention, treatment and emergency response
- Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation methodology, chemical dependency, addictions treatment, psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects) as well as psychotherapeutic and counseling skills
- First Aid/CPR Certification for health care providers (Level 1 or greater)
- Knowledge of evidence-based best practices and issues in the care and treatment of mental disorders, addictions, and concurrent disorders
- Familiarity with community, social and mental health resources
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act as it applies to the rights and obligations of patients
- Advanced assessment and diagnostic reasoning skills
- Effective conflict resolution and aggressive behaviour management; use of non-violent crisis intervention and behavioural management techniques

Homewood Health promotes a fair and competitive compensation model. Pay rates are tailored to reflect differences in operating environments and job requirements. Compensation is influenced by many factors including compensation principles or approach for a role or job function, organizational tenure, experience, qualifications or premium skills, external competitiveness, internal comparability, geography and work performance. Pay range for this position is $41.42-$59.52/hour.
