How you make a difference:
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Psych NP) follows established policies and procedures and state guidelines, ensuring compliance with supervision requirements through proper documentation. They provide psychiatric consultation, diagnostic, treatment, and medication management services to patients, including crisis intervention services. Overall, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner plays a vital role in providing quality mental health care to patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts comprehensive assessments, implements and evaluates individualized plans of care, and monitors medication and treatment protocols in accordance with established policies and procedures and state guidelines.
- Documents all relevant patient care issues, including observations and interventions, in progress notes and treatment plans that are problem-oriented, legible, and compliant with documentation requirements.
- Provides individualized care and treatment that is culturally sensitive and age-appropriate, and participates in the psychiatric on-call schedule if required.
- Adheres to established formulary procedures for therapeutic regimens, and supports standards of psychiatric care through adherence to policies and procedures for admission and transfer, utilization review, and referrals.
- Assumes responsibility and accountability for individual judgments and actions, and provides input into mandatory committees as requested by superiors.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education
- Graduation from an accredited nurse practitioner program.
Experience
- Two (2) years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner. Psychiatric experience preferred and/or experience in a residential healthcare institution.
Licenses/Certifications
- Certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in the state of practice highly desired.
- Must maintain CPR certification, and any other certifications (such as First Aid) required by contract.
