How you make a difference:
The Psychiatric Registered Nurse will work under the direct supervision of the Health Services Administrator (HSA)/Program Manager (PM) or higher medical professional to develop, initiate and coordinate patient care plans in a psychiatric setting. They will collaborate with the healthcare team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality psychiatric care to patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize the nursing process to provide quality patient care by completing assessments, analyzing data, and administering medication according to established standards.
- Respond to psychiatric emergencies, assess for suicide ideation, and manage appropriate risk levels.
- Communicate with healthcare staff regarding patient mental health status, document findings in patient health records, and provide crisis intervention and counseling as required.
- Coordinate activities of assigned shift, respond to intake area requests, and maintain a clean, safe, and secure working environment.
- Initiate lifesaving measures, identify medical emergencies, and arrange transportation to hospital as needed. Additionally, may participate in interviewing and training new staff and be responsible for evaluating and training direct reports.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
Experience
- 3+ years’ working in a psychiatric nurse role
- Previous correctional/detention facility experience
- At least two years’ experience providing treatment to adults with various mental health disabilities
Licenses/Certifications
- Current (and must maintain) unrestricted RN license in state of practice
- Psychiatric–Mental Health Nursing Certification, i.e. via ANCC, or has completed required hours and is in process of testing for certification
- Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
