PRACTICE DETAILS:
Northern Health is seeking a psychiatrist for the beautiful ocean side community of Prince Rupert.
This is an opportunity to join the Northwest Psychiatry Team providing services to Prince Rupert, Terrace, Smithers and surrounding communities. Working in a community mental health team, the psychiatrist, in close consultation with family physicians will:
- Provide patient assessments and treatment planning
- Provide ongoing patient centered consultation and education to physicians and interdisciplinary mental health teams to advance effective treatment.
- Participate in provision of area-based continuum of psychiatric services including assessment of patients in the regional hospital observation unit.
Prince Rupert Regional Hospital is a 30 bed facility, including 26 inpatient beds, 2 maternity and 2 high acuity. Stable Psychiatric patients are admitted with general population. The hospital also has 2 seclusion rooms for patients who are a harm to themselves before they’re transferred to Terrace. The Psychiatry office is located within the hospital. The current psychiatrist works mostly remotely and visits Prince Rupert various times through the year.
Prince Rupert Regional Hospital is receiving $80 million in upgrades over the next few years. There are 4 primary care clinics in Prince Rupert.
Outside of the hospital, the Mental Health & Substance Use community programs offer services that include a combination of functions with Interprofessional teams, as well as some specialty services, i.e. Developmental Disabilities Mental Health (DDMH), Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), etc. Youth addictions counselling and referral, elderly services counselling, early psychosis, eating disorders, vocational and recreation rehabilitation is also available at most community programs. In addition, there is adult addictions day treatment programs, and opioid agonist treatment program.
