Within Cancer Care Alberta (CCA), Supportive Care Services are provided by a team of health care professionals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of those affected by cancer by providing support and expert care from the time of cancer diagnosis, through treatment and beyond. The team of professionals that work within CCA are leaders in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and palliative care- all on a foundation of world-class research. As a member of the Department of Psychosocial Oncology based out of the Holy Cross site for the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, the Psychologist II provides clinical care in the areas of assessment, treatment, and consultation for complex medical pathologies resulting from cancer or cancer treatments. The Psychologist II provides specialized clinical psychological intervention in individual, couples/family, and group modalities. Interventions are offered in-person and via virtual health technology to provide service ‘close to home’ for cancer patients in Southern Alberta. The incumbent assists in meeting the psychosocial needs of cancer patients and their support people, through collaboration and consultation with medical, nursing, and other members of the multi-disciplinary health team and community services. The Psychologist II will also contribute to overall local and provincial psychosocial oncology program development, evaluation, research, and the clinical supervision of trainees. This position will be primarily dedicated to patients undergoing bone marrow transplants and the hematological tumour groups. This position will also support other tumor groups to ensure patients have timely access to counselling. Hours and caseloads associated with Supportive Care Services positions may change based on operational needs. This position will move to the new Arthur Child Cancer Centre in Fall 2024.
Description:
As a Psychologist II, you will provide advanced clinical services (including psychological assessment, diagnosis and/or intervention), consultation and education to the interprofessional team and patients/families, and/or provides clinical leadership and coordination in an assigned program area. This is an advanced level psychology position that will allow you to work with or within teams to provide and inform services for patients with complex and multi-dimensional medical, psychological, interpersonal, environmental and/or instrumental needs. You will consult, collaborate, and enact initiatives to ensure that practices are evidence based and in alignment with psychology standards of practice and code of ethics, as well as policy, legislation and regulations. You will be expected to lead, facilitate and/or participate in program, policy, and procedure development, service planning, staff development, quality improvement and evaluation, and/or research activities as identified by the needs of the service area(s). You may provide supervision to doctoral level psychology residents, master’s level interns, provisional psychologists, psychometrists and other team members.
