BACKGROUND / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of grade 12 education required.
- Must have a valid Class 4 operator’s license, clean driving record and 2 years passenger driving experience required. Must provide a 5-year Drivers’ Abstract.
- Certified in Emergency First Aid, and CPR required.
- Prior experience in recreation programming for a senior population is considered an asset.
- Dementia experience/knowledge is considered an asset.
- A resident-oriented individual, whose visions and values align with those of the residence.
- Must be able to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, in the English language.
- Be able to work with minimal supervision and demonstrates a strong ability to problem solve.
- Has demonstrated multi-tasking skills and the ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
Responsibilities:
ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:
Are you a dynamic and creative individual who has a passion for enhancing resident experiences? Under the direction of the Life Enrichment Manager, our Driver’s provide transportation to outings and planned programs that enhance the physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions of wellness for our residents. While keeping safety and well-being at top of mind, this role is critical in creating resident-centric environments where our residents are inspired to experience fulfillment - whatever that means to them.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participates in and adheres to continuous quality improvement standards.
- Under the direction of the Life Enrichment Manager, responsible for providing safe and secure transportation for residents.
- Responsible for ensuring the vehicle is maintained and receives regular servicing, as well as keeping up to date on commercial vehicle inspections.
- Responsible for managing appointment scheduling and trips in an effective and planned manner as to ensure efficient use of time and gasoline. Must be flexible and attempt to accommodate changes to schedules and appointment times.
- Completes a daily circle check of the vehicle and reports all mechanical issues and accidents to supervisor immediately. Accurate recording of mileage on a daily basis is essential.
- Assists with preparing and implementing of recreation programs such as exercise classes, crafts, social activities, entertainment/events, activity area and event set up as assigned by the Life Enrichment Manager.
- Monitors the behavior and condition of residents during trips, reporting any significant changes to the Life Enrichment Manager and nursing staff as appropriate.
- Assists in the maintenance of appropriate department records including attendance, assessments, and evaluations of planned programs.
- Maintains a positive image of the residence through ongoing communications with the community, family members, staff, and volunteers, by helping to fulfill each resident’s unique leisure needs.
- Adhere to emergency response standards and practices, following policy when accidents occur.
- Maintains established department plans, policies, and procedures regarding such items as quality of programming, treatment of residents, infection control and safety.
- Maintains effective communication, both written and verbal with co-workers, residents and guests. Uses the appropriate lines of communication with supervisory staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Life Enrichment Manager or delegate.
- Complies with all corporate policies and procedures.
- Completes all required mandatory training/education.
- Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System/Globally Harmonized System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills. Participates in the ongoing Fire Prevention, and Pest Control programs and any other programs as required.
