PET CARE SPECIALIST

This is a part time role that works onsite at Gus’s Pet Resort in Okotoks, AB
Join our pack as a Pet Care Specialist and get paid to cuddle dogs at work. Yes, really!
The Pet Care Specialist plays a key role in providing our guests with the premium level of care and attention Gus’s Pet Resort is known for. They collaborate with the Pet Care and Client Care team to foster a safe and enjoyable experience for every pet in our care.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE

  • Ability to build and foster positive relationships with clients and staff. You are friendly, approachable, professional, and energetic.
  • Adaptive - We are a fast-paced environment and operational efficiency is key.
  • High level knowledge of dog breeds, behaviour basics, and grooming services.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
  • Proficient user of the Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Willing and excited to learn how to use new software platforms, tools, and digital interfaces.
  • Team player who can be coached, take direction, and receive feedback.
  • Must love dogs (obviously!)

GOOD TO KNOW

  • This is a part-time position (0 - 25 hours/week) and that works onsite at Gus’s Pet Resort in Okotoks, AB
  • Shifts are scheduled between 6:00 am and 8:00 pm)
  • The successful candidate must be physically able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • The hourly rate of pay starts at $15.00/hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Safely introduce new dogs to the group and asses the new pack member’s behaviour during their visit.
  • Supervise and manage a daycare playgroup of around 15 dogs.
  • Record clear and informative notes about dog behaviour in the playroom logbook and communication boards throughout each shift.
  • Complete daily report cards for the dogs in your playgroup to provide to their parents.
  • Follow the playbook schedule to ensure dogs receive adequate nap and play time, scheduled training, activities, behavioural work and games.
  • Proactively monitor dog behaviour to ensure the health, safety, and enjoyment of all guests.
  • Document and follow established communication protocol when incidents occur to report them to the Pet Care Supervisor.
  • Communicate health concerns and proactively seek medical attention when needed for the pets in care.
  • Identify dogs that require additional or changes to care plans and ensure they are communicated appropriately.
  • Feed and clean up after the dogs, keeping indoor and outdoor play areas clean and dry.
  • Communicate with the Pet Care and Client Care team via verbal and written methods.
  • Facility cleaning tasks including laundry, mopping floors, taking out garbages, wiping/scrubbing down dog enclosures, and keeping the playroom stocked with supplies.
