SUMMARY:

The Public Awareness Senior Specialist will work collaboratively with a cross-functional team to support the company’s public awareness regulatory compliance programs and activities in accordance with federal and state regulations. The incumbent will effectively communicate with external and internal stakeholders and evaluate program effectiveness to prevent and reduce damages to pipeline facilities and meet and/or exceed regulatory requirements.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Communications or Public Affairs.
  • 2-10 years of experience.
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills and a willingness to accept a variety of assignments as necessary to achieve results.
  • Strong team skills are required along with proven ability to interact with management and external stakeholders.
  • Analytical ability with willingness to advance skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in multi-tasking and working to meet deadlines.
  • In-depth understanding of energy pipelines and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong proficiency working with Microsoft Office software and databases (i.e. Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Word).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE IS COMMENSURATE WITH THE SELECTED JOB LEVEL:

  • The Specialist/Analyst level requires a Bachelor’s degree and 2-5 years of relevant job related experience
  • The Senior Specialist/Analyst level requires a Bachelor’s degree and 5-8 years of relevant job related experience
  • The Lead Specialist/Analyst level requires a Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of relevant job related experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • GIS pipeline experience.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of the company’s Public Awareness Program, including but not limited to, stakeholder mailings, outreach meetings, effectiveness evaluation and supplemental activities to meet/exceed regulatory requirements.
  • Actively analyze and track data metrics (One Call damages/near-misses, Quantitative Surveys, social media) as it relates to pipeline safety and compliance to identify trends and develop action plans to facilitate improvement in company’s objectives of preventing and reducing damages to pipeline facilities.
  • Prepare documentation for regulatory inspections and positively represent the company during inspections, as a subject matter expert on federal and state regulatory public awareness requirements, including API RP 1162.
  • Work closely with GIS and Integrity departments to research, modify and update pipeline assets and related layers using various GIS tools including ArcMap.
  • Work collaboratively to support all company activities, including delivering training to Operations, writing communications for external stakeholders and interfacing with other departments, stakeholders and organizations.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment
