JOB SUMMARY

Niagara Region currently has openings for temporary, full-time Public Health Inspector Summer Students in our Public Health Department, Environmental Health Division.
Working with certified Public Health Inspectors, summer Public Health Inspector Students duties are as follows:

EDUCATION

  • Completion of high school, and
  • Must meet one of the following two post-secondary education criteria:
  • Preference will be given to students who have successfully completed at least 1 year of their post-secondary program

SKILLS

  • Knowledge of investigation, interviewing and the delivery of Public Health inspection programs
  • Working knowledge of Ontario Public Health Standards, Health Protection and Promotion Act and relevant legislation
  • Customer service skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as self-directed and/or with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Strong health & safety orientation
  • Computer skills (email, internet, excel, databases, word processing, etc.)
  • Ability to keep neat and accurate records (written and/or electronic)
  • Data collection and data entry skills

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to start full-time work no later than the start date outlined in the posting
  • Must be able to work the hours, days, and duration of work outlined in the posting
  • Must meet the educational criteria
  • It is the employee’s responsibility to possess and maintain a valid and restriction-free driver’s license of appropriate class to carry out the duties of the job.
  • A valid G2-class driver’s license is required; A valid and restriction-free G class license is preferred
  • Access to a reliable vehicle for travel to various work locations throughout the day
