JOB SUMMARY:

As part of the Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) for the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus, the Environmental Health Specialist provides safety and compliance support and training to academic and research programs. This multi-disciplinary position resides within the Occupational Health (OH) Division. The Public Health Specialist will be a multi-faceted role with an emphasis in coordinating efforts promoting campus community wellness. This role may include: regulatory and safety program assistance and training; occupational health program support; coordination and promotion of OH and EHS support to external non-research customers such as CU Medicine, Police, Facilities and/or academic programs; assistance to the campus pandemic response or other emergencies or public health crises as needed; supporting the campus by maintaining relationships and commitment to promoting health and safety. The components of this position’s responsibilities are described below.
Key Responsibilities:

30% - Special Campus Project Coordination

  • The Public Health Specialist may be asked to assist with campus projects that serve the purpose of promoting community health and wellbeing. This may include but is not limited to related student compliance record management, vaccination clinics, infectious disease testing sites, programming regarding public health concerns, support in creation of infectious disease response infrastructure and generating supporting deliverables for school and work units. This coordination will involve identification of stakeholders, skilled leadership of conversations, and organization of a timeline. After projects are complete, evaluation of success and future lessons may be the responsibility of the Public Health Specialist. This position is subject to requests for programming proposals and data summaries from university leadership and will work in coordination with appropriate parties to create quality deliverables.

50% - Occupational Health Program Support

  • The Public Health Specialist position is housed in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health Division. This position will be expected to contribute to division-specific duties. This may include performing risk assessments, creating write-ups of data findings, assisting with compliance coordination, contributing the public health perspective to community health efforts, reviewing and/or creating clinic education deliverables, performing policy review and revision, supporting clinic needs.

20% - Infectious Disease Monitoring- Infection Prevention and Control

  • Epidemiologic surveillance and investigation to reduce the community transmission and spread of communicable diseases. The Public Health Specialist will be responsible for monitoring global, national, state, and local infectious disease threats and apply health department guidelines and public health orders to optimize campus safety. This position will work closely with various campus groups to take action to prevent disease transmission and improve community resilience. Interventions might include coordination of vaccination efforts and tracking, case investigation and contact tracing, rapid response coordination, and planning programming.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be willing and able to take Colorado Public Workforce and HIPAA training upon hire.
  • Location: Anschutz Medical Campus. Ability to flex schedule around emergent situations.
  • The position will follow all policies and procedures provided and comply with confidentiality agreements related to personal health information.Should the requirement for COVID-19 related activities like testing, contact tracing and case investigation, data tracking, etc. resume, this position would resume efforts related to mitigation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, world health sciences, environmental sciences, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, nursing, healthcare, or a directly related field from an accredited institution and 1 year of professional level experience research, project management, data analysis, and/or compliance role.
  • `A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
    Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in public health or a pre-health field
  • Prior coursework in Public Health / Infectious Disease / Epidemiology.
  • Experience handling PHI and other medical information
  • Prior work with immunization compliance
