REQUIREMENTS:
- University graduation in a related field plus 2 years of experience or 2- year diploma and 4 years experience directly related to regulatory enforcement; or equivalent as described below
- MUST be eligible for peace officer appointment
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent
Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the Public Safety Investigator Team Lead and Manager of Investigations, this position functions within the parameters of applicable federal and provincial legislation, regulations, standards, policies and procedures for carriers, drivers and vehicles.
- Assess bus and truck carriers’ compliance and performance to address underlying issues that affect public safety.
- Investigate complaints made by the public, or other parties, in regard to commercial carrier compliance with Federal and Provincial Acts and Regulations.
- Attend cross-ministry committees: as a department representative and resource person developing partnerships with industry and associations (e.g. CAOEC, AMTA, etc.): acting as a resource person and discuss issues/concerns across the industry.
- Liaise with enforcement agencies such as RCMP, Sheriff’s and municipal police: attending Check stops as an “expert” in regulatory issues (e.g. Hours of Service legislation, safety-related permits, Safety Fitness Certificates, etc.) to assist other attending enforcement agencies.
- This position deals, in person, with the public and industry, sometimes under very emotionally charged conditions, or in very politically sensitive areas.
- This position deals with industry representatives at all levels, from driver to CEO, outside agencies at upper management levels, department staff at management levels, and legal professionals (crown prosecutors and lawyers) on a regular basis.
